    American monarchy

Someone started a thread over on arfcom on monarchies. This led to a discussion of if America should have a monarchy. I was quite suprised of how many thought we should. I personally find the concept of a monarchy rather repulsive. Thoughts on this?

    Jim,

I believe that both Canada and the USA are ruled by monarchies but we do not call them King or Queen or Duke or Duchess, etc. Still there are ruling families that run our countries and and have a closed door policy to commoners such as myself.

I agree with you. I also think that the fact that some think a monarch is the answer is an unfortunate sign of the times. Trump effect, perhaps? He wants to reign rather than lead, no doubt about that.

Hillary - the Woman who would be Queen.
A female version of Richard III.

In truth, and to be fair, there has never been evidence to
prove he killed the two Princes.
He may have got a bum deal.

Not sure about that though I see your point. Those "ruling families" can come and go depending on the winds of fate.

Yeah... bone spurs .... those little things that got our present King wannabe out of being drafted. Funny... I remember years ago when all the conservatives questioned how we could elect Clinton as Commander in Chief when he'd never been in the military... kind of changed our tune on this now.... haven't we ?

Don't you have some Tapioca pudding to eat before going to bed at 7?

And dont get me wrong, I have respect for the British Royal Family. They seem like fine people. I just dont go for the concept of monarchies.

No significant modern western nation is so foolish as to leave its future to the whim of any man supposedly qualified for leadership merely by birth. If some despair that democracy is to much a risk, it must be said that that risky experiment in the American experience has produced results to the good far beyond what could have been obtained by monarchical government that has now happily been just about relegated to the attic of history. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.
