OK Sam... heres the skinny on that. Most large corporations benefited from the influx of immigrants indirectly. By this I mean that when contruction was tanking all the contruction companies were hiring low wage immigrants.... meaning tradesmen like myself were forced to seek employment in places like Home Depot. Home Depot took advantage of the situation by lowering the starting wage in my area from $11 an hour to $9.65 an hour and shortly after I went to work for them down to $8.50 ...... while they boasted record increases in profit.
So... corporations the likes of Home Depot may not have been hiring illegals..... they were glad to have them here as it gave them an endless supply of cheap hungry labor.
Prior to this I worked as a supervisor for large construction company. In this position I was asked to look into the laws pertaining to the consequences of hiring illegal aliens. Per the Goverment of the United States I was informed that if the presented Identification was even remotely plausible I couldn't deny employment on the grounds that I felt it was fake... that would be deemed discrimination.
Let me remind you all that this took place under the Bush Administration....
