Battleship USS Mississippi - well, almost ...

The only ship by that name I'm aware of was a "Dreadnought"
The one pictured looks suspiciously like an Iowa class as opposed
    to a Dreadnought.
    Anyway:

The USS Texas BB35 is the only surviving Dreadnaught.

Mississippi-Missouri, Australia-Austria...I know people who travel west from Chicago going to Ohio. Or is that Iowa? I was once told I couldn't be from Illinois because I previously told them I was from Chicago.
It's just a picture of a big boat. What's the difference?

The Iowa class-any battleship built after 1905 with a uniform main battery-is a dreadnought. The British called their 13.5 inch gun ships "superdreadnoughts" to distinguish them from their older 12 inch gun ships.

What about North Carolina and Alabama? Aren't they sister ships of Texas?

The North Carolina was the lead ship of the two ship North Carolina class, the Alabama was in the four ship South Dakota class. TheTexas is the sole remaining WWI vintage battleship.

                    And long may she float.
Who pays for her upkeep ?
People who love these old beauties often have a hard
time raising the wherewithal for their maintenance.
What about all these billionaires like Bezoz ($100 billion)
I guess it's too much to expect for them to help preserve
                    our heritage.
