    Civil Defense

Was once used to help protect some of our citizen's. If Hawaii is hit, it is now just a Tombstone in the Pacific. Some people wouldn't want CD resurrected as a waste of money, time, scare people. America is not invulnerable to any attack, 911 proved that. So far we have been pretty lucky to anything major, it is just a matter of time and that is the frightening point. Majority do not want to take care of themselves believing that government is there and will help them. Aid is days away if you need it now! There are so many ways to destruct in a major way that it boggles the mind. Hawaii was just a small taste of reality and we see how people dealt with reality.

    Sam,

Based on your life's experiences you know people consider government to be a consumer commodity rather than a participatory team sport. When we do take a hit, the cities will be under martial law and those of us in the rural areas will cut off their supply of water. In a prolonged crisis they will run out of food also. As the Texans used to say,
"Let 'em freeze in the dark".

Our water is local and I have provisions if it is shut off. IMHO cities are death traps with any problem, major snow storm is certainly a possibility now. I remember Chicago under Mayor Byrne [sp] back in the 70's and the major snow storm that hit and her leadership or lack of it. The same will happen again in one of our larger cities that depend on "social services". I get a channel out of New York City and the problems some buildings are having with low/lack of heat. People don't realize that this COULD be a sign of what is to come. Something I can see will happen that will overwhelm a city and then what?

You're better off being in the blast radius.

With your attitude should I have done the same with Stage 4 liver-colon rectal cancer? If I had listened to some "physicians" I would be dead now! I am not a loser/coward and hate to be around them. Some here with their loser attitude I wouldn't want guarding my 6!

Stop conflating your cancer remission with a nuclear strike. Not being afraid of an outcome does not make someone a loser. No one is protecting you if youre a liability anyway...enjoy your life and stop fear mongering.

              You sound like Red.

My, My are we not touchy tonight! Sorry if I offended anyone, not my desire to do so. As to fear mongering, that is for those who are fearful for no good reason. Perhaps one should not say too much as "sensitive" people are here.

I remember seeing civi defense stuff when I was a kid. They even had their own fire trucks.

Cities especially are woefully unprepared for a major disaster.

When I was a kid growing up our concern was with the USSR and lived accordingly. Got a real taste of fear the month before the start of the 6 day war. Our city was having a practice air raid alarm and we kids were in the hall standing with our face to the wall with our hands covering our heads. Normally the alarm was over in 5 minutes with the all clear, this time it wasn't. We could heat our teachers with alarm in their voices questioning what was going on. One of the tough guys started crying for his mother and one of the girls told him to shut up! Most of us just stood there in confusion wondering what will next happen. Turns out the on/off switch for the alarm malfunctioned so the cops called the schools and radio station to report the incident. Main power to the siren had to be cut. Out tough guy sure was razed after this, wasn't so tough after that. Funny he went on to join the Navy as a deep sea diver, something I couldn't do. If we depend on other's for our needs they can fall short of expectations.
