    Democracy on the ropes ...

That headline must be music to the 3 Stooges collective ears:

I have to laugh, the United States is not nor has ever been a Democracy. Democracy is for NSAWP people who are losers. The United States is a Republic with Republican laws. This is written into our basic law, Article 4, Section 4 U.S. Constitution.

Technically we are a constitutional republic. Probably the best form of government.

not necesarily musi to the ears of the three stooges... but... what does that article state ?....

Scandinavian nations Finland, Norway and Sweden topped list of 'free' nations with scores of 100 out of 100

Funny enough I spent 5 1/2 happy years in Australia, a place that many here would describe as another Socialist State..... like Scandinavia.... however....

.... cashiers at the local big box store made enough in wages to afford to buy a house...meaning regardless of the ample social benefits... it was still worth getting up and going to work.

You may claim they're system is failing if you like ... but look back 5 to 9 years right here... and the aftermath.... and another 8 years forward...

they never seem to hit the doldrums as bad as we do

Yes, I'm sure all here know that.
However, you can't have a survey of Constitutional Republics
          because we're the only one.

I note how people who praise socialism somehow manage not to emigrate to those wonderful socialist nations.

Depends on how you define "free". Those countries are very conformist societies where you are free to do whatever the government allows you to do. Australia is very anti-gun. I note that the various nationalist parties that have arisen in reaction to the unlimited-and corrosive- immigration policies of those countries are always smeared as "fascists" and " racists".

Australia may be some what anti gun by our standards ... but not gun free. people hunt... shoot in competitions , plink .22s and go to local gun ranges etc etc.....

Someone here... sysad.... recently mentioned she'd not move to a country where she couldn't "protect herself and her daughter "

The Australians on the whole feel that its a shame that we here would consider that so necessary..

They had one mass shooting... jumped in took care of the problem and now feel completely safe without a shotgun in every room, and a carry pistol and ankle holster backup.

                who feels freer

Sam: Actually, the word "democracy" does apply to the U.S.A.

Democracy | Define Democracy at Dictionary.com
DEMOCRACY definition: government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. See examples of democracy used in a sentence.

democracy definition. A system of government in which power is vested in the people, who rule either directly or through freely elected representatives. Note: Democratic institutions, such as parliaments, may exist in a monarchy.
It is merely another word that has different definitions depending how it is used. In the vernacular, it is a place where freedom reigns and the form of government is immaterial.

Think about the word "screw." It is defined inn the dictionary as being:
A short, slender sharp-pointed metal pin with a raised helical thread... used to join things together...
However, when used in the vernacular, it can mean something quite different.

The widespread adoption of "shall issue" CCW laws in this country has made many people a lot safer.
When people think of a "police state" they of the Gestapo or the NKVD bashing on someone's door at 2AM. It can just as easily be your friendly local Bobby or Constable knocking on your door at 11AM saying your soon to be ex-wife has accused you of domestic violence or one of your neighbors has reported your "strange" behavior.

Our Constitutional Republic is merely a democracy
with the added safeguard of the Electoral College
                      which prevents:
Two Wolves and a Sheep debating what to have for dinner

Neither term is rigidly defined. But is seems to me the Liberals/Leftists idea is that of a People's Democracy.

More like a Government Democracy - where only the Government gets to vote.

I hope I don't get to where I dislike democracy as much as I dislike comprehensive.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.
