So there are plenty of jobs out there, but no one applying for them. Why? Well, when a person can get all they need free why work! Education? Again, plenty of opportunities, but again, no one going onto higher education! Families have been on welfare for generations. Solution: limit welfare to say 6 months. After that no freebies what so ever.

I like the way the do it in Singapore. You don't have a job? We'll give you one.
You won't work? Enjoy your starvation. -
Like I've always said.
Unemployment compensation is very limited but something we pay into. In fact we are forced to pay into it but have very limited benefits.
Welfare/food stamp programs have no time limitations and the recipient almost never has paid anything into it. I've seen welfare spread from generation to generation, each having large numbers of children that they could not afford. This keeps the democrats in power.
SS is something we pay into. Again, we are forced to pay into it and all we hear about is how SS is going broke. There is NEVER a mention of welfare funds running out.
Eliminate welfare and the farm jobs that no one wants will be in high demand. No need in any more green cards.
The laws should be "if you can't feed 'em don't breed 'em" and "if you don't work you don't eat".Comment

I like everything about the gov't & society of Singapore. Even though I'd have to give up my "freedom" to vandalize buildings with graffiti, throw my trash in the street, stage violent street demonstrations, and countless other acts of uncivilized behavior tolerated, or even applauded, in this country.Comment

Medicaid benefits vary from state to state, but in NY & VT, welfare mothers who want MORE brats are--rather than being forcibly sterilized, as they deserve--entitled to fertility treatments paid by Medicaid!!! Surreal but true.Comment

Major Tom, perhaps yourself and others around here might remember more than I when LBJ signed welfare into law? I was still young and not paying that much attention to politics aside from Viet Nam back then. I recall the TV hype Johnson was pushing to get his bill passed. It was not a lifetime handout, but financial help just to get people up and onto their feet. The cameras were always showing tenements with kids eating peeling paint chips in the hallways along with bread bags stuffed into broken windows etc. Remember that at all?
I recall my step father talking back at the TV and saying it was pretty BS without any expiration date.
Looking back now I can see where the American public was sold a bag of magic beans. I think it is time to put an expiration date on it. We need to start by getting rid of the "It's all or nothing" policy. That in itself would keep a lot of people from relying on it when they really don't have to. Cases can be reviewed and those who honestly cannot physically survive on their own should get extended benefits.
Sounds easy enough to approach until one realizes the amount of corruption that needs to be overcome first. People running the system itself depend on taxpayer money as well.2016 Chicago Cubs. MLB Champions!

Singapore ...
I like Singapore too... been there three times . No unemployment.... and when I was there rental housing was a tough find.... everyone was"required" to purchase their home.I like everything about the gov't & society of Singapore. I'm with ya on the welfare thing but lets not forget that American wages have been suppressed for many years making welfare more attractive.... hell its just taken me 9 years to work my way up to the same money I made 32 years ago ....
but beating on welfare recipients should be across the board ... no more corporate welfare.... I don't like paying billionaire sugar growers in Florida money so they can underprice Cuban sugar growers for instance ... and I don't like subsidizing corn growers because I'm forced to use ethanol added gasoline.... they can grow something else ....
.... and that list could go on and on... and mostly because stock holders want to live comfortably on their dividends... and if you are receiving dividend because your investments are subsidized by the government.... well, you're a welfare recipient as well....Comment

I had to buckle my seat belt while I sat in my recliner...I agree with everything you said, so you must be an imposter. Where are you hiding the real Sandpebble? Dad always said that if you want something to work for it. I have seen people who needed assistance thru no fault of their own and other's who burnt their brain. If the U.S. cut welfare across the board 25% who would howl the most? Corporations or individuals with my guess of corporations as they can buy the most influence. Right now one of the local stores has whole milk at $1.18 per gal, is this a loss leader or what? My limited understandings is that grocery stores operate on a profit margin of between 2-6%, is the milk a 1% profit to draw people in? Today I had to buy a new printer and I got a Canon @ $25.00, replacement ink for both cartridges will cost more then the printer. How can a store sell it so cheap? I was in retail sales for 25 years and this leaves me scratching my head. I understand politicians wanting to increase money into "social programs" to generate votes that is understandable. In my county there are jobs, people don't want them because apparently they are not worth their time. Wal-Mart is cutting back on hiring due to the constant turn over. Gee, they expect people to work for a paycheck. My daughter is a casher with one of those yellow smocks and her shift ends @ 4pm, yet it never does. Reason is apparently people are late for work on a daily basis. Dad taught us kids to be there 30 minutes before you were to start work so as to be ready.I like Singapore too... been there three times . No one applying for the jobs....
Well Tom I'd like to address yor comments on the jobs.....So there are plenty of jobs out there, but no one applying for them. Why? Well, when a person can get all they need free why work! Education? Again, plenty of opportunities, but again, no one going onto higher education! Families have been on welfare for generations. Solution: limit welfare to say 6 months. I own a small business that starts people at $11.00 to $12.00 an hour and I cannot grow that business because I just can't get the applicants . However, our local Home Depot has an endless stream of new applicants and hire'es even though they've dropped their starting wage locally over the past 10 years from $11.00 ph to $8.50 ph...
... so what gives?.. the job has to be easy , thats what... even if it pays a lot less . There's a young guy that's a teller at my bank where I make my deposits .... used to be an AC guy.
At 28 years old running ducts through attics sucked is what he told me..... so for less than 1/2 the money .... he says he enjoys an hour for lunch .
When trump touted he'd bring back "millions" of jobs to this country I thought that a worthy endeavor ....
... but I also thought it was a moot point if only "hundreds of thousands" showed up to work ...Comment

You left out peanut growers, who under Carter gained the same kind of protection from foreign competition the sugar-barons have; and then we rail against China's trade practices? Corporate welfare is the result of rampant Congressional corruption--votes for sale to the highest bidder; but one abuse can't be used to defend another.beating on welfare recipients should be across the board ... no more corporate welfare.... Well Clinton.... in my post I did mention the list could go on and on . Naturaly you would assume I'm attacking republicans... but that isn't so... I have no party afiliation on this. You left out peanut growers, who under Carter gained the same kind of protection from foreign competition the sugar-barons have; and then we rail against China's trade practices? Corporate welfare is the result of rampant Congressional corruption--votes for sale to the highest bidder; but one abuse can't be used to defend another.
The sugar industry ... as I've mentioned... donates heavily to both parties... and usualy a little heavier to the one who's about to win .....
little Marco Rubio is often a guest of the Fanjul Bros who own the sugar empire .... but not as often when it looks like the Dems will win ...Comment

You'd be rich, too. Singapore's version of Social Security is the self-funded Central Provident Fund, and most people draw considerably more in retirement than they made when working.I like everything about the gov't & society of Singapore. . Yeh. That beaten path can be problematic. Lots of places are nice ... until you get off the beaten path. Once you get where most people live, that's when you can figure out how things actually stack up. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce."
