I had to buckle my seat belt while I sat in my recliner...I agree with everything you said, so you must be an imposter. Where are you hiding the real Sandpebble? Dad always said that if you want something to work for it. I have seen people who needed assistance thru no fault of their own and other's who burnt their brain. If the U.S. cut welfare across the board 25% who would howl the most? Corporations or individuals with my guess of corporations as they can buy the most influence. Right now one of the local stores has whole milk at $1.18 per gal, is this a loss leader or what? My limited understandings is that grocery stores operate on a profit margin of between 2-6%, is the milk a 1% profit to draw people in? Today I had to buy a new printer and I got a Canon @ $25.00, replacement ink for both cartridges will cost more then the printer. How can a store sell it so cheap? I was in retail sales for 25 years and this leaves me scratching my head. I understand politicians wanting to increase money into "social programs" to generate votes that is understandable. In my county there are jobs, people don't want them because apparently they are not worth their time. Wal-Mart is cutting back on hiring due to the constant turn over. Gee, they expect people to work for a paycheck. My daughter is a casher with one of those yellow smocks and her shift ends @ 4pm, yet it never does. Reason is apparently people are late for work on a daily basis. Dad taught us kids to be there 30 minutes before you were to start work so as to be ready.

As you mention WallMart , the minimum wage there is about to increase... and thats a good thing even though they'll raise their prices to compensate. But I'm not entirely sold that that raise comes as a reward to those workers because a ccorporate Tax Break was voted in ...

Part of Wal-Marts problem was that Target executives came in about 12 years ago and things went to pot. It took awhile for things to get back to normal, our store still does drug tests. Prices won't come up because of the raise. With the new CEO who started out on the docks things have changed for the better. My bride has been with the company for 16 years so I know something about them. Her benefits and salary has increased since he has come on board, things continue to look up. By the way, due to my training, I read carefully and don't always voice. Wal-Mart is going back to how Sam ran his stores which is a vast improvement over what it was.

Sorry Sam but Wal-Mart is nowhere near to being back to Sam's way. My sister worked for them for 38 years and at one time was responsible for 7 Super Stores. She graduated from high school in Arkansas and went to work at the local WM. She moved through the ranks and became a millionaire. I once saw a bonus check she earned and it was for over $200K.

She tells me that what she did is no longer possible and that today's Wal-Mart bears no resemblance to the one she started working for in 1977.

Many of todays WM employees have weird hairdos and facial tattoos. Sam Walton would never have allowed that or much of the other behaviors that are grinned upon today but aren't funny by any stretch.

I have to agree on what you have said, what I meant to imply was that the basic concept is back redirected from the "Target" mentality of doing business.

Sooner or later, we will be obligated to re-evaluate our practice of providing housing, food, transportation, and medical care to people who refuse to prepare themselves to support their families. We now harbor hordes of individuals who recoil at the idea of performing any useful labor on any schedule, much less obeying the most basic of civil or criminal law. Our citizens who educate themselves, and seek a path of productive labor, are required to support these people, and overlook their transgressions of the most fundamental rules of society. In Ohio a few years ago the state, due to lack of funding, cut back on "social programs" and the progressives howled! Think of the children, mean spirited was their battle cry coming from all places the Department of Human Services as THEIR BUDGET was cut and jobs was lost. Since they are union this also meant dues won't be paid as well. We have jobs in this country at some of the local restaurants hold open interviews one day each week. Wal-Mart has become more selective of who they hire due to the training cost [$2100 per person]. As the pie gets smaller people will have to work or steal...probably the later.

Vern: When I was in Singapore about 10 years ago I asked our guide if the state provided welfare. She was somewhat horrified by the question and said simply "we are not interested in helping lazy bums". She did explain that they had a form of welfare for people who were medically unable to work and that they considered that to be morally acceptable.

all land is owned by the goverment ... 82 % or more live in apartments purchased on 99 year lease agreements from the Government .... special housing may be appropriated to certain people...

some describe it as a country run like a corporation .....

like one ... or by one... name your preference

A tiny bit of land with no natural resources--but look what they've done with it! Compromises have had to be made that we, in our luxury of land & resources, might find unpalatable, but comparing "us" to "them" is apples to oranges.
