How many Women fought in the Union Army ?...

I seem to remember reading about a Woman who dressed
as a Man in order to do so - but how many actually joined
up (as Women), were equipped and went off to fight ?
    Right, I thought so.

[QUOTE]The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America asked Virginia Secretary David Shulkin, back in November, if he could change the motto

Ah, listen up, journalists -- in this context, "VA" means "Veteran's Affairs," not "Virginia."

There are quite a few substantiated stories that wifes (in disquise) joined up with their husbands and carried arms and fought. Women by the hundreds joined the hospital services.
