Unfortunately this is true, not feeling good take a pill, want to lose weight take a pill, can't get it up take a pill. When my client told me that they were going to do something negative I believed them and acted. Many times law enforcement was brought in as I was taking no chances. They either went to jail or the psych hospital to keep them and society safe. Local, not federal, society is going to have to take a hard look at several things. Are new laws needed to remove violent people from society due to threatening, how long will they be locked up? Some people can be rehabbed to be released to society, many cannot. IMHO some people are born just plain mean and society would be much better separated from them, but how? I have had ex-cons released and lived a normal productive life, other's not so and went back. Federal intervention is not needed nor warranted. What works in my society might not work for yours and vice-versa. Bullying in school has to be stopped and the only ones that can do it are the teachers...if they are not afraid. Society has to learn to be "polite" again starting in kindergarten. It might come to the federal government, who has large tracts of land, to set aside a portion to "house" those who cannot get along in society and need to be removed. Take a portion of the Nevada desert, build a town there behind barbed wire and place anti-socials there for the good of society. Quit warehousing people who have killed for 20-30 years as this is not financially productive for society. It might not stop killing, it will stop the financial drain on society. I am just offering some possible suggestions to society's issues, something needs to be done.

Take mind bending drugs, even those which make a person totally indifferent, and video games running from room to room killing everything (friendly fire means nothing) then add a sense of no responsibility in real life... WTF do they expect to happen?

People continue to have kids like there's no tomorrow. For the most part we are out of room. "Parents" think nothing of cramming 5 or more kids in a small house in a subdivision. How often do we see kids playing in the highways, their basketball goals set up in the streets? They have absolutely no yards. It's like raising caged animals. These kids have little choice but to watch TV or play mind damaging video games all day while at home. Welfare is a major contributor to this encouraging people to have additional kids (democrats), another is total lack of responsibility. For those who have some common sense, can provide for their children and raise them right, where does this get them/us when we have no borders and the s**thole countries simply dump their excess into our world? Drug laws are lax and the democrats want to legalize pot to boot. Most other laws are not enforced as well except what is easy to make money off of like ticketing for exceeding the posted speed limit by 5mph. Another thing I have found is people constantly MOVE, either the parents can't keep a job or they don't pay for their homes and get foreclosed on. Kids can't establish any suitable friends or lifestyle.

Experiences most of us had while growing up like taking long "safe" walks in the country or park, fishing, hunting, target shooting, swimming in the creeks and ponds, bike rides, growing up on a farm or having a decent sized yard, going to school activities and other events that used to be pleasant are going to the wayside.

It's not getting better either. My 2 cents worth of rant.

If one Google's "US Birth Rate", it becomes clear that the numbers are down. Regional variations are of course possible.

Here's a question. If one is down on the current generation of youth, does that imply anything about their suitability as future stewards of the Second Amendment? If people are connecting dots, don't forget that one. My view is that the vast majority people are a safe bet with guns, and that this won't change. But that there are anti-social types out there who are bombs waiting to go off. At some point there might need to be a discussion about that.

why there werent shootings 40 years ago.. kids were raised to play games to win, therefore they learned how to win and lose. now they are all winners and get trophies for showing up, every kid gets to play, etc, etc, etc. everyone can blame smart phones, video games, tv, but its how these kids are raised from day 1, they do not learn how to deal with life. thank you liberals for forcing this way of life down everyones throat, destroying our society!

Experiences most of us had while growing up like taking long "safe" walks in the country or park, fishing, hunting, target shooting, swimming in the creeks and ponds, bike rides, growing up on a farm or having a decent sized yard, going to school activities and other events that used to be pleasant are going to the wayside.

Pretty accurate description of how I grew up (except for swimming--never liked that) in a house all by itself on a gravel road outside the city limits, no utilities except electric, nothing behind the house except hundreds of acres of fields & woods. New houses were gradually built up & down that road, but stayed pretty much the same through high school. Then a grandiose new high school was built in a cow pasture less than a mile away. NOW, "my" house would be hard to find in the ocean of new subdivisions that engulphed it. Same all over the country, of course.

Thankfully, our country now provides kids with something far more important (schools & the media never stop telling us!) than what was sacrificed to asphalt & subdivisions: DIVERSITY!!!

This morning it's looking like plenty of people knew this kid was mentally disturbed and probably dangerous. It's a real conundrum. He had, till that point, committed no crime but no one was surprised when he did. If you can pull a kid like that off the street for suspicion that his mental state is dangerous how do you keep the law from being abused and locking up or harassing people who are not dangerous? Wish I had answers, the problem is clearly mental illness but how the heck do you deal with it?

On top of that if the authorities had been notified ahead of time of his questionable acts/traits they would have dismissed it and said something like "you can't condemn some one who has broken no laws".

On the flip side every time something happens like this people suddenly have 20/20 hindsight. "I knew he was up to something". "This comes as no surprise" and etc, etc....

I think at the very least schools should have metal detectors like the airports placed at all doors.

Schools have gotten too big and house too much diversity. I know adults would fight if placed in the same conditions why should we expect more from the kids?

Many schools do have metal detectors. Although I don't know if that would have helped in this situation. However, that school did have SROs (School Resource Officers). I am just waiting to hear why there was no engagement with the shooter.

This latest incident took place about 15 miles southwest of where we are wintering in Florida. As far as I can tell the community appears to be an upper middle class community with good schools and good people living there. I saw a TV interview with among other people, the Governor and the Sheriff of Broward County. Unless I misheard things, the sheriff said that he lived in Parkland and that his children had gone to the school. Our community has a current events discussion group that meets every Thursday morning and of course the shooting incident was the prime topic. One attendee told us that his nephew is a student there and although he was not injured, he is totally devastated at this time. You can just imagine the nature of the discussion but at the end most people realized that there is no single magic answer to the ongoing problem. All the flags in the area are at half mast.

Well Sysad... i've mentioned it here before and had my head handed to me ..... .

Someone in this country can collect benefits because they have a mental illness,... can't even function to the point of handling their own financial affairs... but we can't deny them their 2nd Amendment rights ?.... why not .... we can deny a drunk the right to drive can't we ??

i just read of a Grandmother who turned in her Grandson after reading his journal... good for her... and good for us. We gun owners are the ones that need to be on the look out... frankly there are many times at the local rifle/pistol range when I meet someone that just makes me ....wonder.

We... gun owners... not democrats should be the one fixing this problem . We...WE.... have allowed gun possesion to be incredibly easy. I recently wen't to a gun show and purchased two rifles from two guys who rented tables and who weren't FFLs....

The first one said... "Lay your money on the table and pick up the rifle".... the other one was half hearted about local laws and asked if I had a Florida drivers licence....then didn't even want to see it.

In all honesty I've always enjoyed the freedom to buy and sell like that .... but I think its time I gave up that priveledge.... or at least choose to do so. I have no prob with NICS for every transaction

we'll start easy #1 driving is not a right, its a priviledge. as for nics on every purchase, this kid bought his all legit, but even if he didnt pass a background check he would have gotten a firearm like anyone else who wants to break laws, buy it from another criminal. this is the whole problem, criminals dont obey laws, if they did no one would have been shot and killed yesterday, because that is already against the law! its also against the law to use a firearm in the commission of a crime, yet that didnt stop it either! the problem is not the guns, the bombs, the cars, its the damned criminals. until something in this society is changed, you can make all the new laws you want, ban everything you want, and not one damned thing is going to change!
