There is a way to stop/cut down on these happening, but it would require the assistance of the Federal Government Dept. of Education. For starters ban backpacks, limit how a person goes in and out of any building, have a minimum of two armed guards [maybe ex-military] with M4's at each door, replace the standard glass with bullet proof ones, station guards outside as the buses come in and out. Make it hard to be attacked, I know sounds draconian but it will work. I had heard that there was 2 cops at the school for 3,000 children which was certainly not enough. 50-75 cops would have made more sense, to pay for the extra security tack on a "surcharge" to all school supplies. One of the worst school assinations was done by an adult with dynamite, I believe in 1924 if memory serves me right. WE can impose all the rules and laws that we want, it won't stop a determined person or a psychotic one.

A viable alternative, they are already there. Unfortunately, most are liberals.......................and won't do anything but squeal and complain.

I hear you JB, but you left out the other part of my post.
Togor, I left it out because I don't disagree with you. I only pointed out something which will come back to bite us if we followed that particular path. As far as civic duty goes, it should be everyone and not just us gun owners. The problem isn't on us to solve the issue. It's the things others ignore or make excuses for. It's what we are all currently discussing, but "they" prefer to point at talismans and have others do away with them. Civic duty as a whole I concur, but I'd rather not we take a road to damnation.

          Unfortunately, now I know.

I just read where the officer thought he was doing his job by radioing in the situation and exact location of the shooter. All fine and good but how can anyone who could have made a difference just stand around while innocent kids are getting murdered?

No, it's not. For the last several years, police emergency response tacticians have been preaching that EVERY second counts in such a life & death situation, so cops should get inside & do something as fast as they can move. Of course, this rotter is going to try to explain away his cowardice, but I prefer the Chief's response: "sick to his stomach" over this behavior.

Close to retirement most likely felt not worth getting hurt.

I just read that 6 police officers have been assigned to protect him. What a waste of manpower.

He must be related to that cruise ship captain who abandoned ship and told the coast Guard he would"direct rescue operations from shore", thirty some people died and he is in jail.
