    Joe Scarboro (MSNBC)

Joe was on a rant on MSNBC this A.M. about the shooting in FL. He made this statement " more people will be killed with weapons in the United States this year than were killed in the jungles of Viet Nam". I don't where he obtained this information and I don't have any figures to prove or disapprove this statement. I find that hard to believe. Just posting for comment..

The hard part, for me, is to decide whose figures to use. I don't know who to trust anymore, since everyone has an agenda and there seem to be no neutral parties.

The next question is to decide what or if to exclude any data. Some of the sites exclude suicides by gun, others do not - it seems to be based on trying to prove predetermined conclusions. Do we exclude accidents, and determine to count by intent? I don't know.

If we use data to prove the conclusion "Guns are bad, so we must ban them.", how do we reconcile that to the number of people killed in motor vehicle accidents? Do we ban cars (taking an argument to the extreme)?

I'd like to see a civil discussion; no polemics; back up reasoning with verifiable and available data.

And Joe, mind you, claims to be a Republican! Yeah, just like George Bush.

I think the number of Vietnam KIA was 50,000 give or take.
That number in the same number of years will probably be
topped not by gun violence but by drug overdose deaths,

What I see is anytime a gun is used, the gun is the problem, not the shooter. However, if a drunk driver kills someone, and follow their logic, the driver was not at fault it was the car and the car should be banned.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

In an "average" year 39,000 people will die from firearms of all issues...suicide, homicide, police shootings. In Vietnam roughly 50,000 died from all results. On a daily basis more people die in vehicle issues then from firearms many due to being under the influence of something...that is the reality.

Fifty nine thousand men were killed in Viet Nam. The CDC's latest figures for all homicides is: 15,872 For Firearms homicides 11,008.

                  Joe is full of it!

I am curious, are there any figures of black on black verses white on white or a mixture of the two, that would be interesting to say the least.

Does anyone really give a crap what Lil' Joey says? Most of the time he's full of bovine excrement.

Next Joey can lecture us on marital fidelity.

All the little pissant is doing is moral preening for his audience.

BTW, Joey voted against background checks at gunshows and voted for the repeal of Lady Di's AWB.
