Nah, they'd prefer to let babies in cribs get eaten by huge rats
rather than give up their gun control.

Yellow press can always be depended upon to print hysterical material. It is not unlike click bait type ads. Have rats developed a tolerance for some poisons. Yes. No different than other species. Other poisons will be developed. Meantime ... cats. Cats do a fine job with ... rats. And for the bigger ones ... dogs. It works. And, rats don't develop a tolerance for the fangs and claws of cats and dogs. Sincerely. bruce.

ah the good old days when you could go to the town open pit garbage dump with a case of beer, a brick of .22s and a scoped Mossberg.

THAT was a very long time ago! Back in 1980 I got off work in the shipyard, jumped in the car and headed out to a wide open marsh way outside of New Orleans. There I had a fine time shooting rat and cans and such at a dump ... until a nice fellow who worked for the state game and fish dept. rolled up. Apparently I was not supposed to be blasting those rats and cans. Ended up in state court. Judge ... she must have been the mother of troubled children. She listened to my side of the story ... told me to pay $5 for court cost ... pick up my rifle and pistol and not to ever again let her see me in court charged with the high crime and misdemenor of shooting rats and cans in a trash dump. That was the summer of 1980 ... forget the month ... outside of New Orleans, LA. Nowadays ... anyone try such a thing and they'd likely get shot 144 times while the game and fish dept. life flighted the rats to a emergency vet. Sincerely. bruce.

Was it the rats, or were you polluting the dump with traces of lead?

Chicago sewer rats are as large as raccoons. It'll take multiple hits from a .22 before stopping. I'm told at Wrigley Field the rats are like pit bulls. They apparently got into pallets of protein powder mix in one of the store rooms. It's said they toss rat traps around like baby toys and spit poisons back at you. Now, you just read that on the internet so it must be true!

BRUCE , that was back in the late 60's. you could pretty much get away with anything if you acted responsible. I told my old shooting buddy about the lifeflighting the rats out. he's probably still laughing.
JB I've seen those big rats in new York city. our small town dump rats were not that big. big as possums, not pit bulls.

Been in Chicago. Just got back from NYC (Christmas - New Years). Never saw any rats were I was at. In old houses, in dirty poorly maintained places ... likely see rats about the same as I once saw while out in New Orleans. I found a simple little Winchester 190 loaded with any kind of decent .22 LR ammo would do the business when it came to reducing a rat of any size to room temperature. Will say, when it came to Nutria, I tended to use a little bit more horsepower. I typically used a 03-A3 loaded with nice handloads ... 130 gr. HP loaded over 41.0 gr. of Re-7. That thing was the Bomb! Perfect prescription for dealing with larger bodied vermin. Shoot a Nutria w/ that thing ... nothing left but fur and fog! Sincerely. bruce.

Very few cats will tackle a rat! I have had cats most of my life, only one, I can remember, ever did.

Bruce, have you ever toyed with round balls for plinking or pests? Some rifle/cartridge combos work better than others. Some work great while some balk at it. I've been able to get decent results with cast RB's in a 303 Brit, but the swaged balls performed excellent in the 577-450 Martini. (staying somewhat on topic since the thread is about UK rats)

Inner city Chicago, summertime, between 1:00 to around 4:30 am. Target rich environments and no shooting allowed. Downtown streets (The Loop) have small dog/raccoon sized rats on the street corners. Some alley ways move under the street lights as though they're doing a remake of the movie Willard. The City puts out poison and posts warnings to try to keep things under control but they'll never eradicate them. The rats typically scurry for cover near sunrise and traffic starts moving.
After the morning rush and closer to noon is when most of the two legged rats emerge. Those are more dangerous but it's against the law to poison them. A lot of them manage to poison themselves but WE can't do it.

Who mixes guns and firearms? And why? My dad threw back plenty, but never in the field or at the range.

Is that a jet joke? If so, it went over my head at high altitude.

my apologies sir for calling you retarded. I was just trying to be derogatory. I wasn't aware of your condition.
                            once again, i'm sorry.
