    Your lin
k is goods only (in Canadian dollars).
Are you serious???? The only way that would matter is if the Canadian government were reporting their exports and imports in different currencies. That is a ridiculous!!!!

BTW your wonderful link states trade in "goods" support 1.2 million jobs and your "service" trade supports 36,000.... I believe your link was written by some low level bureaucrat hired by Obama and a supporter of Clinton.

For 2016 (last year listed in both sources). Use a USD = 1.33 CAD ratio, which roughly reflects the average for the period. When in possession of separate data sets intending to measure the same activity, cross-checking them against each other is a useful exercise to gauge confidence-level in the measurement process.

      From http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tabl...lec02a-eng.htm

Canadian Goods Exports to USA: $392B CAD (est. $295B USD)
Canadian Good Imports from USA: $360B CAD (est. $271B USD)
Net Canadian Goods Trade Surplus: $32B (est. $24B USD)

      From https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/canada

USA Goods Exports to Canada: $266B (est. $353B CAD)
USA Goods Imports from Canada: $278B (est. $370B CAD)
USA Net Goods Deficit with Canada $12B (est. $16B CAD)

USA Services Exports to Canada: $54B (est. $72B CAD)
USA Services Imports from Canada: $30B (est. $40B CAD)
USA Net Services Surplus with Canada: $24B (est. $32B CAD)

USA Net Trade Surplus with Canada (Goods+Services): $12B (est. $16B CAD)

Comments: The respective countries numbers are similar in goods, with Canada reporting a higher goods trade surplus than the USA reports a goods trade deficit. This could be due to differences in reporting methods within the respective countries. But overall, even adjusting for currency differences with a single factor, the numbers are in the same ballpark. What everyone agrees on in the public sphere is that when services are factored in, the USA runs a trade surplus with Canada. One would expect the 2017 and 2018 numbers to be similar.

Trump of course knows this now because he has access to top-shelf briefings, but thinks it's funny nonetheless to watch the reaction on other people's faces when he deliberately says things that aren't supported by the numbers. Trade numbers to him are no different than TV ratings numbers in this respect. His shows are always #1, and his America is always winning now that he's calling the shots. The writers have settled into a nice groove here in Season 2.

Regarding the issue of the balance of trade between Canada and the USA, the following article may shed some light on the problem of determining the correct number: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/naft...rade-1.4579792

Thank you Mark that was an interesting link .

I would like to add another item into the fray when we look at the numbers ... and that is when you see how close the numbers are and then add in the fact that the population of Canada is only about 1/10 th that of the US I'd say the US is actually doing pretty good on its dealings with Canada .

But lets get back to the real item of this thread .... what if trump wasn't lying ... and Canada really was "getting one over" on this trade deal with the US ... ?....

.... then why did he admit ... no wait... actually boast on national television that he did in fact ... lie ?

But lets get back to the real item of this thread ....

The real; item of this thread was about some people claiming they got 20 year old oatmeal at Wal Mart. It was a lie and a hoax and I merely asked why somebody would want to do that. The thread had NOTHING AT ALL
to do with Trump or trade deficits until the twisters, haters, and stooges made it about Trump. Hate and burn, twist and turn, is what the trolls have done to this thread and more broadly this country. They are un-American traitors that won't quit until Alfred E, Newman becomes President.

Well not Alfred E. Newman, Red, but Dr. Seuss is looking better all the time to some people.

Quote from an article in a magazine that you of course don't read:

A few days after the Democratic electoral sweep this past November in Virginia, New Jersey, and elsewhere, The Washington Post asked a random Virginia man to explain his vote. The man, a marketing executive named Toren Beasley, replied that his calculus was simply to refuse to calculate. “It could have been Dr. Seuss or the Berenstain Bears on the ballot and I would have voted for them if they were a Democrat,” he said. “I might do more analyses in other years. But in this case, no. No one else gets any consideration because what’s going on with the Republicans—I’m talking about Trump and his cast of characters—is stupid, stupid, stupid. I can’t say stupid enough times.”
If conservatives want to save the GOP from itself, they need to vote mindlessly and mechanically against its nominees.

It may surprise you the number of people who look at the current situation and see it exactly the same way as Toren Beasley.

You know Red... you are quite right and I was wrong about where this thread started.
                .
However in all fairness... it does seem an awfull lot of threads veer off into Obamas and Clintons direction ... don't they? twist and hate... burn and turn

However ...even though we may have steered away from your original post the discussion did end up where it did.... and I'm afraid I'll stand by what I said.

and if I may offer the observation..... you did seem to follow along and contribute to the "conversation"

                all the best

                    No debate there

You somehow reminded me of an old TV cereal commercial. "Hi. I'm Euell Gibbons. See this rock? Did you know parts of this rock are edible?" He eventually died too!
