Interesting Article on an 1853 School Shooting

    https://www.politico.com/magazine/st...-debate-217704

The writer has a bit of a pro-gun-control slant, but not so much that it should turn people away from what is otherwise an interesting nugget of history. I've been reading some lately about the 1850's and to my eyes it's possible to see parallels between then and now.

Togor, you're missing a key element to the Compromise of 1850.

prompting national outrage over the slave South’s libertarian gun rights
Gun control actually began in the South -- in order to disarm the former slaves so they couldn't shoot back at the Ku Klux Klan.

The writer has a bit of a pro-gun-control slant
A bit? The writer knows exactly where he's going and who he is appealing to. A very cleverly written veiled article.
Choosing one of most poorly decided trials in history to present a case for "modern common sense" gun laws. He's a sly one.

Yep and still harping about England having gun control , but no mention of the control they held over their subjects either . The guns they preferred were due to a necessity , they were living in hard times and didn't have the financial luxury of owning a collection of various firearms .
Just old fashion liberal still loyal to the king , no doubt .

When going through my deceased parents collection of stuff I found an old newspaper, late 1800's or so that had an interesting article on "guns" at school. It was about kids bringing toy pistols to school and apparently shooting at each other. As near as I could tell these "toys" used .22 caps. Holy smokes!

Mr White, I agree with you. A sly collection of arguments leading to more "gun control."
