Been happening for decades -- flagellation and similar self-injuries are an ancient Christian tradition.

What do they expect for their self-mutilations? Box seats in Heaven? Cripes, they aren't very bright and now they're ugly too. An old friend of mine allowed himself to be "crucified" years ago. He hung up there long enough that he almost suffocated in front of the congregation.

Not when carried to this extreme degree! "Mortification of the flesh" is not supposed to cause permanent injuries. Myself, I'm content to wear a hair-shirt.

There are different beliefs -- in ancient times there were some, both pagan and Christian, who practiced self-castration.

I'd have been spared a vast amount of grief, folly, debts, & other regrets, if I'd practiced that belief...though it would be necessary to delegate the "self" part! But far too late to do me any good now!
