An interesting study and a startling conclusion

All of this hand-wringing over destruction of culture, but only European culture. Non-European cultures in say Africa or North America that got flattened by the Europeans, nary a sympathetic word for them issues forth from you.

European colonial administrations never as a rule attempted to suppress native cultures, let them continue practicing witchcraft, ritual mutilation, polygamy, etc., except that a few ancient native customs, such as slave-trading in Africa & suttee in India, were proscribed. Such dastardly interference!

And if Indians in this country got flattened, they have sure as hell jumped up again larger than ever! Everything from the privilege of legalized gambling in states that otherwise prohibit it, to legalized & wholesale violation of the game & fish laws that apply to every other US citizen. Need to kill a bald eagle for feathers to adorn you war-bonnet? No problem, if you're (what is it?) 40% red-skin. Their stone-age, animistic, religions have been "honored" by court decisions to the crazy, idiotic degree that human remains 20,000 yrs old have to be returned by the anthropologists who discovered them to the tribe currently occupying the land--which wasn't even on that land at the time those remains were deposited!
