I love it: a white ultra-liberal (why else would she take up that particular study?) getting the treatment usually reserved for conservative or non-partisan whites. I hope her "denouncers" make her life miserable!

The logical extension of the contention that only a black person can curate African art is that only a white person can appreciate or curate European or American art. You will surely appreciate the screaming that such an approach would create and the cries of racism that would (correctly) ensue. The Museum should have simply said that they hire the best qualified people available and then shut up.

Simple way to deal with this sort of thing. Serial number the applications. Review and select based on qualifications rather than irrelevant criteria such as race, family origin, physical appearance, particular college/university attended, etc. But, of course that will not happen. It would make the process less manageable for those who seek a desired result. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.
