    "Mission Accomplished."

Trump's remarks on Twitter are reminiscent of President George W. Bush's 2003 speech announcing an end to major combat operations in Iraq on the on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, with a big sign that read, "Mission Accomplished" in the backdrop.
More news media twist and burn type stuff. The press made a huge deal over a sign that was on the USS Lincoln when Bush flew out and gave a speech on the Aircraft carrier. The Phrase was and is still used to demean President Bush and now they will try to use it to do the same thing to Trump. The only problem is George W. Bush never said that. The Executive Officer on the Lincoln was told to prepare a welcome to the the President and he and his staff decided that they were on there way home, their operations had been successful, and they were looking forward to some good ol' R&R. In their eyes, their mission was "accomplished." The banner reflected their feelings and did not originate with the White house or it's staff. Bush didn't use the words in his speech and in fact said that there was "much left to be done."

Twist and turn hate and burn. Honesty and straightforwardness died sometime in the 1990s, November 1991 as I recall...

Actually the White House did make the banner for the Navy, who hung it. But even you would admit that it was a pretty unfortunate visual for the Iraq war. Those words are kind of loaded now, and politicians might want to use them with care. But I'm not going to ding Trump for it.
