Anybody remember those Saturday morning Serials ? ...

Saturday morning with your sweetie watching Flash Gordon,
For those who never partook or weren't old enough -
this should help. For those who did, this will remind.

Movie serials from THE PERILS OF PAULINE in 1914 to COMMANDO CODY in the 1950s

Remember serials and action programs on radio? As a kid, I loved them.

Can't have then nowadays -- too much work for kids to make the pictures in their heads.

You're right. No Ray Harryhausen magic or CGI can equal
what your imagination can come up with.

"Who knows what lurks in the heart of man, the SHADOW does"... Use to come on at 5:00 PM and I hardly ever missed it.

Every Sat. used a push mower to cut neighbor's yards; $1 for the front and $1 for the back. $1 in the bank, $1 for the movies, ride my bike to the theater; double feature, 3 serials and 2 cartoons. 15 cents to get in, all the milk duds, Mike and Ikes and soft drinks and still have 25 cents to take home.

Remember one time Hopalong Cassidy got run in to a box canyon; "Come back next week to this theater and see more of Hoppy...." Well I did and the serial showed Hoppy riding away and the announcer said "After Hoppy escaped...." Still don't know how he and the horse got out of the box canyon....

Radio, now that was something else, there was a show "Theater of the mind" and it really described radio. Imagination is a wonderful thing, bettern' any cell phone. X Minus 1, Gangbusters (Gen schwarzkopf's father was the announcer), The Creaking Door....

I remember it all. I used to listen to radio entranced. Then in 1952, we went to Peru (my Dad was in the oil exploration business) and stayed there until '54 and then went to Egypt. When we came home in '56, all whose wonderful old radio programs were gone!
