    California strikes again ...

All new house construction has to include solar panels.
Er - not ALL new houses will have a southern exposure.
Ah, never mind about that, put 'em on anyway the solar
    people need the money.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...omes-2020.html

It takes 30 years to get your investment back, and roofs
are usually guaranteed for only 25 years.
Suppose you need a new roof ?
Ah, never mind about that, the roofers need the money,
and the solar people won't charge you an arm and a leg
    to remove and re-install.
    Right.

In my area, house roofs that don't have southern sun exposure, they build the grid off house to catch the rays.

They should come to Ontario Canada. The politically correct idiots who have been running (ruining?) our province for the last 15 years are paying homeowners 83 cents per KWH for solar power generated via residential rooftop panels. They can generate nuclear power at about 3 to 4 cents per KWH and in any case Ontario is generating more power than it needs and has to sell it to US utilities at a loss to get rid of it. We used to have the lowest electricity costs in North America; now we have the highest along with more debt than California. The only good news here is that we have an election in a month and hopefully we will consign the Liberals to history

The potentially good outcome would be high demand for US made solar panels, eventually driving costs down.

The potentially bad outcome would be kickbacks, payoffs, etc. to administrators resulting in high priced inferior panels (3rd world style corruption).

Real world odds (especially in a liberal state) ---> 100 to 1 in favor of corruption.

I doubt a "southern exposure" is really necessary in Cal. for solor panals

round these parts... the power companies buy power from folks who power with solar.

Same for us, however the power companies now charge a flat fee to those solar users not supporting the infrastructure maintenance.

Who goes up and shovels the snow off the solar panels?

That is why you do not dis-connect from the power company!

Direct sunlight is necessary, however -- even a hint of shadow dramatically cuts the panels' output. And in the Northern Hemisphere, that requires a southern exposure.

yes, and when you start paying 7 bucks a month for AC (electric) then the power companies lobby to pass laws that you are NOT paying "your share"
                        so then the rules change.
then you also have a 3rd party if you ever try to sell the house.
