Anywhere from $2,500 to $10,000 more per year (to fund pensions).
Proposal to greatly increase property taxes in Illinois

So? The money will end up in the same place the previous pension payments did. In 'Rats campaign chests. -
Don't send them to Arkansas! We have vampire bats here, sasquatch, Ozark Snow Snakes and other critters. People from Illinois wouldn't like it here.
By the way, my property taxes for a 185 acre farm and 5 bedroom house are $1,200 a year.Comment

And even that is outrageous. What do you get in return? Some say if funds the fire department. If your home catches on fire and the FD puts out the fire then your homeowners ins should pay for their services. Some say if funds the police department. You pay $1200 a year, let's say Joe Blow lives down the road in his single wide with a meth lab in the back. He pays $50 a year in property tax. Now who is more likely for the police and fire dept to have to respond to and does it cost more to put out a trailer fire vs a house fire? Some say it pays for schools. You pay $1200 and probably put 2 or 3 children through the public school system years ago. The majority of the people in cities, where most of the schools are, live in houses with no property or live in apartments, some government subsidized. These people have the majority of children in the schools but pay little to no property taxes. People who have kids in the public school should pay a usery fee. There is no correlation between students in the school system and how much property you own or the worth of your home.
In my state any overage of taxes, fines or fees goes into what is called "the general fund" where the money is never heard of again and there is no accountability of how it was spent.Comment

Crooked politicians and wasteful pork programs. Corruption and mismanagement by incompetents on a grand scale. Chicago and Cook County is an open self-inflicted wound draining the life out of the state. Illinois sucks...like a Hoover...sucking up everyone else's money to pay for it's bad behavior.2016 Chicago Cubs. MLB Champions!

I guess I'm just weird. I'm living on $2700 a month and I worked for the same outfit for 30 yrs. Retired city workers in IL get 60 to 100K a year. If I had sixty grand a year I wouldn't know what to do with it all.If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.Comment

Of course when they talk about students in Arkansas having tablets they mean slate ones, with a piece of chalk for a "stylus". Good enough for the ABCs and the Ten Commandments.Last edited by togor; 05-14-2018, 06:28.Comment

If more people lived by the Ten Commandments less money would be needed to fight crime and then could be spent on education.

Most of my property tax goes to fund the public schools. Now I don't mind paying for some kid's education. What really torques my jaws is when I pay for it, and he doesn't GET an education. And even that is outrageous. What do you get in return? Some say if funds the fire department.
