    Had a combat vet [WWII Marine] tell me years ago there are two types of infantry. One that looks good on parade and one that fights in the dirt. Sometime the two can be combined.

        My Uncle David was Household Cavalry { Life Guard } Served at the Palace and at Windsor.

        He also served with the Regiment in Cyprus on Scout cars in the late 50s and ultimately malaysia based in Singapore.

        They look pretty ornate.... but they are real soldiers .

        And Sid .... the Royal family is not one penney of a drain on the tax payers over there. For many hundreds of years the profit earned on all Royal property has gone back to the nation . If all Royal owned property were to be taken and the Royal income with held the tax burden for all "subjects " would actually increase
