    Unfortunately another one

Had Wolf @ McDonalds for her double cheeseburger when I heard of the shooting on their T.V. How much is this going to cost the shooting fraternity? I will be attending an outdoor gathering tomorrow to offer my shooting wares, hopefully it will go well...weather permitting.

I said it before and I'll keep saying it. Teachers whine that they don't want to be armed. I say any adult who has children in his or her care, and who fails to do his or her utmost to protect them is beneath contempt.

Most of the Teachers I've ever seen on various TV programs
I wouldn't trust with a can opener let alone a gun.

Did armed police presence in our court houses prevent the ultimate need to install metal detectors to stop the shootings in them a few years back ... obviously not.

Sorry vern, but the parents of that 17 yr old today failed to do their utmost to protect their child..... and the children of 10 others..... they were irrisponsible gun owners .

and as far as Boggs question of how much is this going to "cost " the shooting fraternity ....... well... obviously he feels it will be more than it just cost 10 American Mothers

I would not consider to speak for you, will you do the same for others. The cost I am afraid is liberty for all, not just the shooting fraternity. Consider this, total confiscation of firearms will lead to ruin for all. How you ask, police will have the firearms and therefore will be a target for their weapons. An arrow will penetrate all vests same for ones with chicken plates. Where will it end in the interest of public safety?

No doubt this would be a hard pill for Vern to swallow so he'll spit it out, but you're right on the money. Vern wants to put it on the teachers. Not the kid, not the parents. "Blame the teachers" taken to a ridiculous extreme.

In Israel the teachers are often armed, it is possible to have something similar here as well. Both sides can and will continue to point fingers and state that their side has the only answer which in turn could be a dead end. Is the answer to turn learning institutions into armed fortresses? Will shooters look to the universities as the next target? Gasoline can be purchased very easy and inexpensively what if this is the next device, what then? One tends to forget that the actor is the weapon all else are tools. One tool is unavailable another one will be procured often easier. Big box stores are a plethora of raw materials for a timed incendiary device that looking at it will not give a second look.

Sam the thing is, Israel was created out of a war and faces hostility on many sides. In the settlements, everyone is armed. But they've self-selected for this. And look at the amount if energy Israel puts into suppressing those it regards as a threat.

By contrast America sits behind two oceans and (until recently) had friendly relations on its borders. So now we're supposed to select teachers primarily based on their facility with firearms and not for knowledge of subject matter and teaching ability? Why did we fight those world wars? To make the homeland safe, right? Why not start to look at the households that are sending these killers into schools? Israel doesn't just let Hamas thugs openly walk around the West Bank between settlements with AKs slung.

Maybe with respect to school safety--a serious problem, of course, but far from the MOST serious, which is the conversion of the public education system into a public indoctrination system for the implantation of left-wing ideology in naïve & immature minds. Not to "blame the teachers" for the Washington "March for our Lives" would be absurd.

Again that is not the point, let me rectify. Some teachers are combat trained that is becoming evident as some retired going into teaching. Quit looking at what was to what is and go forth. One of the skills of case management is to look at potential trouble spots and plan before the perceived areas become an issue of contention. People have changed and so must society to protect itself. Does American society give up our freedoms to live in fear as Europe or do we find American answers? Would you be willing to have a federal I.D. card that is needed to do everything from entering a building to buying gas? A fugitive from justice would be easy to track if a # is needed to buy food, gasoline, lodging or a plane/train ticket. Tell me Togor, what are you personally willing to give up to gain "something" in return. Once a liberty is lost government won't return. How about as you suggest making the parents criminally responsible for the children's actions. Locally we had parents jailed because the kids skipped school, truancy went way down. How about 20 years mandatory hard time for theft of any firearm regardless of how stolen. Every firearm theft has to be reported to the local Attorney General for action instead of just to the BATF for statistical study. Felon in possession of a firearm, 20 years additional. Make it Draconian to intentionally misuse a firearm or let it be misused. I have a gun safe, am going to one that is more secure to keep what I have. I lock up my truck and set the alarm, secure all valuables because of what is out there.

We have so many teachers now that won't arm themselves and many are just plain too incompetent to arm themselves. Perhaps future teachers hired should have the requirement to carry a weapon. Would be assailant's may not attack a school if they know they may be facing guns themselves. Posting signs that "some" of the faculty are armed would help. Banks could do the same. Nothing is 100% but we/they need to do something other than complain that something needs to be done. If nothing changes, nothing changes.

I just wish we would punish the criminals. In this case and others like it. A quick trial in less than a week. Then taken outside, given a good beating, then hung or shot, the body taken to the desert and dumped for the animals to finish. Post THAT on FB and see how quick it all stops. This blaming the tool and not the user is really getting old.

I won't go into the arguments on why this happened, there is enough peanut butter to spread on society, parents, hollywood, social media....and it will be spread thin where the blame really belongs but heavy on the NRA and "guns".

My wife made an observation I think is very cogent. Give the teachers a keychain 'fob' to lock their classroom doors to keep kids in and shooter out. Pulling the fire alarm to make the halls a killing field, well, maybe there shouldn't be unlimited access to the alarms. Maybe someone of responsibility should be the only one's with the ability to activate the alarm.

Your wife has an excellent idea, God bless her! Each teacher with an electronic device AROUND THEIR NECK like a G.I. dog tag. This alarm is keyed into a central electronic device that lets people know of a danger and to lock down and STAY PUT! @the same time the alarm is triggered a signal goes to the local 911 center where first responders-police, EMT1.2, fire is sent. If possible off duty leo as well could respond as we were ordered to. Prisons have this system for C.O.'s and it does work there. Comments?

This shooting happened close to home. An armed officer responded early on and was shot. They captured this murder alive again as he is reported to have said he planned on killing himself but got scared. I'm sure he is going to enjoy Huntsville.

I do not understand why metal detectors are not being installed on the schools and a single entry control point established. Its at least a start.
