I went to the ball game last night in St Louis, had to go through a metal detector to enter the stadium, but that would not have stopped a nut case from killing lots of people in the crowd outside the ball park. Same scenario with a school, you don't have to enter the building. Metal detectors won't work. The shooter would just start shooting before going thru. Armed resistance at the outset of the attack is the action that will have the most effect. Aside from that, social norms must be changed. My youngest graduated from high school 18 years ago. During duck season every kid with a pickup had a truck full of shotguns and ammo in the school parking lot because they went hunting before school. None of them would have thought of harming their fellow students. Something has changed. I know there were school shooting 18 years ago, Paducah Ky comes to mind, but they were rare.

I forgot about Paducah. What has changed has the perception of reality and punishment, not correction. Children from a young age being fed Harry Potter and "Magic", games that teach a misconception of reality. Children's minds are like sponges and absorb everything, so in the guise of "entertainment" and seeing human forms blasted in games what can one expect when they get older. As kids playing "Army" we understood it was a game and the Big Picture on TV was reality. Had enough G.I. fathers in the neighbor who had the scares and memories of reality.I went to the ball game last night in St Louis, had to go through a metal detector to enter the stadium, but that would not have stopped a nut case from killing lots of people in the crowd outside the ball park. Different breed of teacher these days. I remember having teachers in school that were WW2 or Korean war combat vets. Sometimes, when appropriate, they shared some stories.Comment
