Why are Simple Solutions never considered ? ...

Politicians and other powers that be seem to have no idea
when it comes to how to go about solving a problem without
causing an even bigger problem (unintended consequences).
"Keep it simple but not too simple" is an old rule that seems
    to have been forgotten.
Take these school shootings - a subject about which I posted
    before and I'll say again.
Secure the school by having just one entrance. Make sure
windows are secured against entry. Install metal detector
and have armed guard ( a volunteer Vet or retired PO)
    Install CCTV if affordable.
I'm sure Vets would love the chance to be useful once more
and maybe earn a little something into the bargain. Same
goes for retired police officers. Maybe even kids' Dads.
Yah. Too simple. Solutions have to be very complicated like
the Gordian Knot - ah, but there was a simple solution to that
    too I seem to remember.

You will need more then one @ least 6 or more as parameter/roving patrol has to be considered. To fund the protection, consider a tax of 5 cents on every can of beverage sold in a county. Small fee to do something.

Maybe a 5 cent tax on every beverage wouldn't be necessary if we weren't all boasting happily about the "huge" tax break Trump has given us all.

Less tax... less government regulations .... but lets add another tax and regulation so's the government can help us with a problem .... is that what we're saying?

Could we leave politics out of this as it is not pertinent to the problem.

Pebbles you must stand in front of your mirror arguing with yourself as to who the best looking is.

DT more and more schools are setting up a single entrance and a buzz-in protocol. Unknown to me whether schools seeing these shootings have hardened entrances. But as we saw in FL sometimes the cop malfunctions.

When all the kids are in you lock the door.
You don't need roving patrols or snipers hiding in the bushes.

There are no simple solutions to this problem. The recent school shootings are a sympton of a very complex problem in society. Guards, fences, locked doors won't solve the problem it will just move to another location.

See what I mean. Too simple for Jimmy who thinks the solution
has to be complicated otherwise it can't possibly work.

Another simple solution - let's hire Israel to guard our southern border. Their system seems to work - no Palestinian terrorist has crossed from Gaza.

Apply the same solution to the criminal invaders (all of them) from the south trying to come into the USA. Kill a few hundred (or thousand) and they'll stop trying to invade. If their kids are killed, it is the fault of the illegal parents - not the defenders of the border.

As new schools are being built they are taking active shooters into account in design. The one entrance will not work in larger schools, too many bodies to move in at one time. Two or three entrances maybe. As usual a lot of it boils down to money. It’s been easy to say in the past,”can’t or won’t happen here”. That mentality is still hanging on in some districts, but not all.

Apparently you haven't been to a high school lately. It is a bustling place with people coming and going constantly. Athletes to events at other schools and returning, science classes going on field trips and back, Parents checking up on a kid's welfare, vendors for food, vending machines, janitorial supplies, service people repairing everything from toilets to computers. Simply penning up the students and staff like felons in a prison, won't work. You cannot find a prison (even a hard core prison like Pelican Island) where weapons, drugs, cell phones, and other contraband are not in the hands of the prisoners.

16, 17, 18, year old's are no longer little children. They are cunning, smart, and devious people capable of intricate planning and execution. They have money, time, and the freedom to do things their parents don't know about nor would comprehend. "Little Joey tortured and killed a kitty cat just to hear it squeal? No way!!! Our lovely little Joey, he's such a sweet child."

There were no school shootings back in the days that both teachers and students took guns to school. Even if there had been nobody would know about it because the perps weren't made into rock stars by the media. Today if a kid that can't sing or dance, doesn't have the physical ability be a sports star, but thinks it would be a great thing to be a famous person and be remembered long after he is dead, all he has to do is take a gun to school and kill some people. The left and the media will gladly make the kid more famous than Elvis, at least for a while. And yes, I do believe that the left does hope and pray we have more and more mass shootings... it is about the only thing they have left that will get them votes.

Too much diversity. Too many immigrants legal and illegal.

The partial solution to this problem rest on the shoulders of the local Board of Educations. I was curious about the price of a walk through metal detector. I googled them and found them to run $3,000 to $5000 a piece. We go through metal detectors at the airport and sporting events. They have figured out how to move people through the process quickly. You set up a couple of secure ECP's, staff them with the school cops that you have and augment them with off duty cops for the entry process. Its harder to do in a small community but in the larger ones there are plenty of cops looking to earn a few extra dollars.
