For those of us who have pulled off brake drums and inhaled the cloud of "dust", think of all the asbestos we breathed in. This is in the form that is so dangerous too. Now days they are made other materials and the disc brake pads that were asbestos were in the open and never a problem for collecting the dust but those drums harbored quite a bit.

FWIW, If your brake drum doesn't want to break away from the axle, use a propane torch on it around the lug bolt area. The slight expanding and contracting of the metal will free it(from my high school auto shop days).

I always used a small sledge hammer. A couple of hard hits and it's loose.

Kroil around the studs and then whack on the drum/rotor face between the studs with an air hammer and a half-inch flat-bottomed punch. A little practice keeps the punch from walking into the threads. Then I slather anti-seize on the face of the hub so the next time the drum or rotor comes off freely.

BACK off the self adjusters first, then bang on the drum with your 4 pound hammer. Keep your other hand and fingers OUT of the way!!
