He deserves to get his money back (although, being a Muslim, he shouldn't have been allowed into the country in the first place), but customs was perfectly justified in suspecting smuggling when he himself said he couldn't speak English well enough to answer their questions. His intentions of buying property in Albania, the country that fomented the Bosnia war, proves he only came here to get rich. The trouble & cost of getting his money returned is richly deserved. If he thinks he's being persecuted here, nothing is stopping him from going back where he came from. -
You rubber stamped that one. Where does the article say he's a Muslim? I do know this much about Albanians from the Albanians near me.He deserves to get his money back (although, being a Muslim, he shouldn't have been allowed into the country in the first place), but customs was perfectly justified in suspecting smuggling when he himself said he couldn't speak English well enough to answer their questions. A:There are twice as many churches than mosques in Albania.
B: Albania is a secular state with total religious freedom.
C: The more recent Albanians moved here after the economic collapse which began in the 90's.
D: Mostly handymen, cab drivers, hairstylists etc who have pooled family resources to make a nice life for their kids.
E: $58k isn't exactly rolling in dough but it does represent a nice savings.
F: Those who are more financially comfortable came here like that.2016 Chicago Cubs. MLB Champions!

Thought it was innocent until proven guilty? Guess when you've got money ... and Fed. Law Enforcement wants that money ... they you are guilty as charged ... forget about anything approaching justice. And meantime ... hillary skates away from any problems with 30K missing e-mails, etc., etc., etc. Justice. Right. Like a sharp stick in the eye. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce." 17% of the population has more churches than the 58% who grovel on the floors of mosques? But actually, I'm very surprised that as many as 17% were able to survive centuries of Muslim domination.

Here's the point -- if they trample HIS rights, they can trample YOURS. We need to stand against this kind of crap.Comment

If I'm carrying a large amount of cash as many smugglers do & refuse to answer questions put to me by customs officials, my rights should be trampled.Comment

I don't see a Muslim.... that wasn't even implied. You say his intentions of buying a vacation home in the country he came from proves he came here to get rich..... that's a laugh and I'll tell you why.He deserves to get his money back (although, being a Muslim, he shouldn't have been allowed into the country in the first place), but customs was perfectly justified in suspecting smuggling when he himself said he couldn't speak English well enough to answer their questions. People who come here just to get enough money to send home don't bother to become citizens ... that family did. All three members of that family are holders of a US Passport .
I see a man who came here to the United States and during a recession put a son through school to obtain a degree in chemical engineering and accumulated a savings. I see a man who is a go getter and nothing but an attribute to a country that needs go getters more than it ever has before because they are just so plain hard to find.
I'm just ending the process of finishing the deal to buy my second property in South America .....I assume you feel that is just as suspect as him wanting to purchase vacation property in Albania ?
According to the tax laws pertaining to the transfer of funds I do think him foolish for traveling with over $20 grand .... But he is a US citizen with no record and no charges . Give him back his money .
And .... US Passport holders are considered an equal in my book .... even if people are jelaous that those passport holders from somewhere else have prospered and used the American Dream to push themselves harder than native borns to get ahead.Comment

And if someone says, "If I'm carrying a large Republican voter registration card as many Conservatives do & refuse to answer questions put to me by the thought police, my rights should be trampled," would you agree with that?
If you THINK the guy is a smuggler, why not indict him and give him a trial?Comment

This guy wasn't singled out for special abuse--drug traffickers & others smuggling money in or out of the country is a daily occurrence at every major port of entry--so much of it going on that Nat Geo has made it the basis of a regular show. And in many if not most cases it's impossible to gather enough evidence to bring a successful prosecution, given the high standards of proof required, so confiscating the ill-gotten gains is the only "punishment" the traffickers ever face. Furthermore, the cartels & other smugglers make a point of hiring "innocent-looking" old people or women with babies in their arms to do much of the trafficking. And if someone says, "If I'm carrying a large Republican voter registration card as many Conservatives do & refuse to answer questions put to me by the thought police, my rights should be trampled," would you agree with that?

This dope will no doubt get his money back, esp. when one of the countless "immigrant rights" lawyers gets hold of the case. But any customs official that allowed him to pass right through the airport, failing to explain why he was carrying so much cash, would have been guilty of dereliction of duty.Comment

US citizens not involved in smuggling, drug trafficking, other crimes involving foreign travel??? They get a pass on suspicious activity? No, if that's your point, I don't get it.Comment

As currently interpreted, the law says our stuff doesn't have Constitutional rights, doesn't get due process. Law also says that Corporations have the rights of people. But corporations can be owned, like other stuff. At the same time, owning people is bad under the law. Looks like the lawyers gave themselves some unfinished business to safeguard employment, LOL.Comment
