Politely disagree, the ROK are not to be messed with, Charlie found out about that in Nam. As to removing nuclear are any of the weapons there now? There is no need for the U.S. to have nuclear weapons in South Korea that we need to expand $ to guard. All the President needs to do is order any one of our subs in the area to target, simple as that. No where on the globe is out of reach of an American missile or a silo launch.

Bingo!!! First get the US out. Then make it demonstrably clear through a series of calibrated international incidents that Uncle Sam has neither the logistical means or stomach to get back in, that the ROK is on their own now. Remember it was a near thing in 1950 to get enough troops into the Pusan perimeter. Then use an aggressive propaganda posture and create civil unrest in the south to sap the South's will to resist. Eventually a leftist government is installed in the South and some sort of unification or confederation is achieved under favorable terms to the North. In such a scenario Vietnam is less the model (although there are some similarities) than is say Czechoslovakia in 1938, with Kim comfortable reprising the role of Hitler. China, the big power in the region, is not going to come to the aid of democratic institutions in the South. The ability of the South Korean people to freely choose their own government will be taken away from them as they are betrayed on all sides as well as from within. That is Kim's plan in a nutshell. As long as the Trump buildings in Seoul remain profitable, I don't see Trump having a problem with it. Defending freedom beyond America's borders isn't really his thing.

It's half full too. But to your question, engineers are trained to look for the sh*t that can go wrong. Glance at a map of East Asia and tell me there isn't a lot that can go wrong for the ROK. The people most like them are the Japanese, and they hate each other's guts. Without the US in the mix as a moderator there is no way they work together in a pinch. Taiwan, Japan, ROK and the USA together can keep the Commies in check, but it will take a group-minded effort, not some America-first crap, IMO.

I also think this worth thinking about. The Oriental cultures I.E. China / Korea etc are much more patient than we.... they tend to look at goals that could take generations to achieve while we have a different goal every four years.

James Clavells books were very observant of this .... such as Taipan Noble House etc. Fictional stories written with a lot of research and understanding .

You won't easily swindle or out negotiate them .....
