The whole story about girls arrest

All kinds of negative remarks on the net how the police punched/abused this young teenage girl at the beech. A bystander took a cell phone video and put it on the web and it went all over the web about police brutality. Problem is, the video didn't capture the whole incident especially the beginning of the incident but the police video did and the whole story. Typical of people jumping to conclusions w/o the whole story. Ray

My partner was attempting to arrest a drunken female one night who was giving us a good fight, he took out his PR-24. She screamed, "YOU wouldn't hit a lady with that thing!" he took her down with it in a lock and told her that she was no lady!

Despite what you may think you are seeing, what is there is a couple of officers who are out on the beach looking for somebody they can hassle. The woman was laying in the sun, minding her own business. She wasn't drunk, she wasn't rowdy, she wasn't topless. I would say she was doing pretty much what any beach goer would normally do. Her crime was that she was pretty. The cops should have ignored the single unopened beer. They could not know she was a minor. Even a minor needs more than a single 5% alcoholic beverage to get drunk. They could have walked by and continued their rounds because just down the beach a few yards there was most likely somebody smoking weed, annoying other folks, being rowdy and loud, or fighting.

Instead they saw a good looking young lady and decided to ruin her day and rough her up. Their job out there is to keep the peace not to cause a ruckus picking on a innocent people. The girl should never have been beaten and treated like a dog. They even used commands like "Sit!" that one would use on a dog. They could have taken the drink and told the lady to enjoy her day on the beach. Any experienced street cop can smell alcohol and pick up other signs of intoxication. She should never have been forced to take the breath test.

Those two cops should have not only been fired they should be in handcuffs instead of the girl.

Go ahead and flame away about how those cops were just enforcing the law and tell us, "They can't pick and choose which laws to enforce..." That is complete horse hockey!!! Every cop on the street does that every day. Every day he sees somebody going 40 in a 35 zone. He sees jaywalkers, people with grocery carts that are stolen, cars with loud mufflers and darkened windows. He sees the local alkies urinate in public and or trespassing and lets it all go because there are a lot of much more serious business he needs to attend to.

      Just my $.02.

I agree, it should have been handled a lot better. There was nothing to handle. Just put a bad taste in that young woman for the rest of her life. The cop had that newby inexperienced look to me.
As far as the girl is concerned cops=thugs. I like cops and I don't have a problem with them stomping the s*** out of dicks, but this guy needs to hang arouond with some old timers more. "Pour the drink out, it will be too warm by the time your "aunt" gets back.

Oh come on, apparently you are a mind reader. The officers just saw a young girl sitting with a beer next to her. If you know any thing about the law, that was probable cause to at least to stop and ask for an Id to determine her age. . Apparently she refused to comply with these basic requests and attempted to walk away. She made her own bed by not just complying with the requests. How do you find the officers wrong. Red I detect in reading your response that there may be some personal history involved in your dislike for Law Enforcement officers, LOL. Ray

Red's right. Certain professions like police officer, teacher, code enforcement officer, etc. come with the authority to exercise a lot of power over private citizens. When someone like this cop clearly demonstrate that they don't have the maturity and judgment to handle that authority, the need to be relieved.

And you personally know this officer in order to make that judgement about him?

I agree with Red on this one, in principle. One of the first things I was told when I became an LEO was "you don't have to arrest everybody." There can be a difference between an investigation and a "roust." Sometimes you just let it go.

The girl is no angel. She's was already in trouble in a pending assault case. So, no matter the reason the cops questioned her, all she had to do was tell the truth. What would they have done given the containers weren't open? Dump them out? For the cost of a drink she bit off more than she could chew.

I agree you don't have to arrest everyone but I think this incident went past the investigation stage when she refused to give her name to the officers so they could check her age and any wants etc. And also she tried to kick the officer. Art, as a LEO, I can't believe you would not have probably done what they did under the same circumstances. Ray

Come on. She took their test twice and passed. So why would they need her name? She is 20 years old, minding her own business and with her 18 month old daughter. She didn't kill Jimmy Hoffa! They were harassing her and showing their ass. These two guys would jump all over a 7 year old kid that had a (illegal) lemonade stand and beat the crap out of the little criminal.

I have been in her place and it ain't no fun. Back in the 1980's, I was tail end Charley in a funeral possession. I did not know where the cemetery was. We passed through West Fork AR, just south of Fayetteville. We were being led by a Arkansas State Trooper. My head lights were on and I was dressed in a suit and tie. I also went through the only stoplight in town as it was turning red. The local cops stopped me. I told the guy "Officer, please we are in the funeral possession and I need to stay with them!"

"Don't get smart with me you SOB!" With that he jerked the car door open threw me on the ground and handcuffed me. Then he went around and did the same thing to my wife. We were held there handcuffed for an hour while they dumped our suitcases on the ground and searched the car. I was given a ticket for running the red light, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. We missed the graveside service for my uncle, my wife was in tears and hysterical. But, yes I ran a red light so I got what I deserved.

You say you are a LEO. If that is true and if you think what these two hooligans did to that young lady is fine, then you are a hooligan right along with these two jackasses.

BTW, the Police Chief in that town in New Jersey is well known for abuse and still being investigated.
