I'm glad that he did. Fewer than 10 players planned to show up. Most of them are so damn dumb they don't even know what they are protesting when they take a knee.

Somebody explain to me what it is football players -- or any professional atheletes -- do that makes them worthy of admiration and special treatment. -
They're protesting what they regard as excessive police violence against people of color. The silent protests are not meant to signal disrespect to the flag. More like an expression of silent mourning, not unlike flying a flag at half mast after some tragedy. In this case the body is respectfully at half mast before the flag, signalling that not everything is OK throughout the country and maybe we collectively need to look at it. All in all it's IMO a pretty elegant way of expressing that idea. This is why I think it has provoked such a strong backlash, much as hoses were turned on marchers in the civil rights era. The message hits home even to (especially to?) those who would rather not hear it.
Now Sid being the PhD psychologist and everything knows all of this already but is asserting that most of the "kneelers" are too dumb. He consulted to the NFL years ago so maybe he is right. But maybe he is wrong as he has been out of the game for awhile.
How do I know this about the protests? Because they told us. Plus it ain't hard to figure out.Comment

The problem is that football is a business, nothing more then a way to make money. Attendance and ratings are down due to politics being brought in. Firms that advertise will want the most from their advertising dollar and will soon understand that they are not getting it. If they want to protest do it on their own time, not on the ones who hired them...the general public.

Pence walked out on an Indianapolis Colts game when some of them "protested".
When was the last time you heard of volunteer firemen, paramedics and rescue squad members being honored at the White House?Comment

Inverted logic, racist conflation, and inmplivit acceptance of incorrect assumptions as fact.
All done delicately, of course.
Just another instance showing that the true, constant, and complete racists in this country are the America hating liberals, personified by togor.Comment

Not BS at all. Like the OP says, they had a reason, and as he implies some thought went into it. Hating America and the flag is what some think they see but if you ask those guys no that ain't what's going through their minds. Not BS either to say that it rubs some people the wrong way. You're proof of that.
But hey it's American to protest, right? Free people don't always agree and no one has a monopoly on patriotism.

Major problem here. That sort of careful explanation arose well AFTER the public backlash came about to the so-called protest. Kaepernick said he was protesting the Flag and Anthem because they were racist icons of a racist country. After that other players jumped onboard with "Black Power" salutes. Recall they wanted to change the National Anthem and tear down Francis Scott Key's statues? They're protesting what they regard as excessive police violence against people of color. Once Kaepernick found himself without a job, more players jumped into the fray to show their support for him (CP). Not his crusade.
Kaepernick chose the wrong battlefield, the wrong symbols to attack, and was backed by misinformed jerk-offs. Plain and simple. It was his way of jumping into the BLM movement with a lot of flash. That's all it ever was and no matter the various post-mortem takes on the issue like the one you used, it was not the truth when it began. Publicity stunt backfired and still backfiring.2016 Chicago Cubs. MLB Champions!
