I would not be surprised to see Gregor join our progressives on this forum. Regards, Clark

Nugget of truth to this, for places like Poland and Hungary, who escaped and were glad to join the West (the EU), only to be told by Germans what their refugee policy is. That's not what they signed up for when they escaped Communism!

America is a different story in that racial and cultural and religious differences baked in from the beginning. Makes sense that Red would try to conflate the two situations.

Something I would agree with. Funny how things come around. Now the Germans are so nice it's sickening.

"In the beginning," the cultural differences were trifling, because educated Germans were as familiar with Shakespeare & Bach as educated Englishmen were with Mozart & Goethe; Germans in fact sat on the English throne. All were indebted to the French Enlightenment. Religious differences amounted to a family dispute because the intolerance of previous centuries had almost faded away by the 18th C. Racial differences were effectively dealt with by a clear separation of the races. (Not a defense of slavery, as I'm sure you'll say! I hate slavery because it led to the abomination of miscegenation!)

YOU are the one conflating this situation with our present social chaos.

CH your reinterpretation of past sectarian struggles according to contemporary standards is decidedly relativist and self-serving and wildly inaccurate. Why do you think boatloads of sectarian losers washed up on these shores from Europe? What do you think was happening in the woods of the Carolinas during the revolutionary war? In New York? A nice way of putting it would be that you don't have a clue.
