    California split up on ballot

For those who live there, how will this affect you and what is the progressive vs liberal makeup of each "new" state? Good possibility of two new states or one becoming their own nation.

The conventional wisdom is splitting California into three states would be at least a plus 2 gain in the Senate for the Dems, maybe plus 3. Representation in the House of course would not change.I tend to agree with that, the three way split would result in two "blue" states and one "purple" state.

That would not be good for me.

And this all assumes that the division won't be done by the San Andreas fault! Regards, Clark

Maybe they should just declare war on each other.

I like the idea of splitting California into smaller states. I do not like the proposed states in this attempt. Many Californians seek to be free from the fascist-democrat control. This split as currently envisioned wouldn't be good for most Californians and most Americans.

That's what I've heard too. The process is much too convoluted to gain any real momentum. This ballot is nothing more than a current opinion poll.

But if California DOES split up, we have a counter -- Texas can split into 5 states.

At least one Nuevo California would become a Russian vassal state with a warm water ocean naval base. Count on that.

Who wanted it on the ballot in the first place?

Don't think it will happen. Very much do not want it to happen. Would only advantage the extreme left-wing liberals by giving them more power in the Senate. Might or might not affect composition of House. Would definitely mess up Electoral College. No reason any individual state should be able to divide, annex land, etc. without action by the House, Senate and President. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Don't recall the name(s) but they gathered more than enough signatures to have the initiative put on the ballot and by law CA had to do it. Plenty of Californians want to distance themselves politically same as Illinoisians desperately want to distance themselves from Chicago/Cook.

As of now, it's an eye-opening peaceful protest without all the death and property damage. To find out "who" you would need to research back about 9 months or so when they got the first half million signatures. It was in the news.

Legally the population has the votes to place it on the ballot under the state law. If it does pass this brings up many more questions for Congress to ponder. Which federal representatives are for which "state" now. Are the other two section of land now free agents to go their own way if they wish, if not with the U.S. Army intervene? This situation has not come up since the defeat of the Confederacy. Will California be considered in revolt to the federal government and the other states? Can California do what Western Virginia did in 1863?

See? Now someone is seeing the up side! Also the lapel pin industry.

                              Well done, DT!
