    These re-enactments are a lot of fun. When I was younger I used to go to them. Back in those days I also had a fairly large collection of original Civil War firearms and used to shoot many of them at my local range. They were great to shoot but a pain in the butt to clean up afterward.

      Most interesting part of re-enactments are demonstrations of artillery firing--something not to be seen everyday. Even though most of them are restricted to squib loads for safety reasons, it's still well worth viewing. For a number of yrs, I tried to find a few people who'd go in with me to buy & shoot a repro, but never succeeded, and the costs involved were much too great for me to do so by myself.

        I did 130th Gettysburg in 1993. We did Pickett's Charge on July 4, it hit 99 degrees.
