    Trade.... and negotiating

{ $12 billion to be paid out via at least three avenues: Direct assistance; a food purchase program; and a trade promotion program.

    Trump's new emergency aid package comes just days after members of the Iowa Corn Growers Association met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to express their growing concerns that they will not be able to keep their businesses afloat after this year’s harvest, if prices continue to drop due to the trade war. }

Thats what the WP reported today .

Hmmph... seems that those who voted to eliminate welfare benefits need some help now .

    Great negotiating Boss.

However... there is an upside for some . The wife's sister has 2,000 acres... yup, 2,000 acres.... of soy growing in South America .....

she says thank you Mr Trump.

Well #MOFGA is going to generate some extra traffic for the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardners Association, but my view is to withhold judgement until we see who cracks first. If it's our economy, then sure, buckets of blame heaped on Trump. But that's not the solution to root for. If Trump is right and China and others drop the tariffs and red rape, then he can claim a win. Way too early to say. Trump can plausibly say that trends were not on the side of the American worker. But union guys, if they were paying attention, know that Trump is squarely on the side of management.

Well Togor it would seem we are about to pay out 12 B to farmers allready... that didn't take long. The moment it happens our economy has already taken a hit .

Funny you mention Maine ... one of the largest recipients of federal aide in the country led by hard core conservative Governor Paul Le Page. Born in Lewiston Maine and grew up here in the US speaking French . In fact made it through high school to be denied entry to college on the first attempt due to poor English language skills .

Just thought I'd mention that little factoid for the benefit of those who feel so personally affonted by " Press One "

Farm subsidies remind me of the old joke: "Q: How do you starve a farmer?"

A: By nailing his mailbox shut!

No doubt we shovel a lot of taxpayer money at ag, but it gives us cheap food and keeps the land in production. In some sense we are the China of growing food--huge economies of scale that reduce our production costs. Tariffs, which are good for our steelmakers, are bad for our farmers. Eventually Trumponomics will have to reconcile itself to that fact.

Here in Florida some of the richest farmers in the country grow sugar on state owned land ...and receive subsidies from the Fed so that they can wipe out the Cuban sugar industry ....

"Free Trade" seems to cost the US tax payer a pretty penny . But it gets better....

Our Governor and Senator, as in Scott and Rubio, made claim we don't need any fed assistance to keep the pollutants from contaminating the water. `They felt it a better idea to allow the sugar industry to write up its own method of preventing pollutants into the water. We've been months now... again... where you can't go near the beaches from the stench of fish kill and algae growth in all the canals so thick it chokes an outboard motor.

.... but at least we are no longer bothered by those pesky regulations .....

Gotta agree with you 100% on the sugar industry. A real disgrace and a good example of what happens when big money ownes the agenda.

I agree. I've got family fighting to clean up the Indian River waterway.
