Staffing Problems at Mar A Largo

Now let me start by saying that this is not a jump on Trump, in fact he's getting a bit of my sympathy here as a "fellow business owner" .

I just read of the staffing probs his hotels are having and how out of 144 vacant positions they hired only one American......They hired .....One..... American .

Not because they were offering prejudice..... but that is all that applied with sufficient abilities . And as Trump himself is quoted as saying ....

" Americans don't want a temporary job"

Thats ... partially true and I'm glad the President can have a little first hand experience of what small business owners experience .

My small company offers above average local wage and has just spent two months trying to hire anyone that can pass a background check. We finally hired two... A Nicaraguan lady who became a citizen and holds a US passport.... and an American male.

The American was typical of our hiring Americans here in SW Florida ... he started on a Thursday and needs the next week off . Once a month we do a couple of extra hours and wouldn't ya know it..... thats the day he and his wife need to be home because someone is coming to clip the dogs toe nails .....

Today I offered yet another a young guy still living at home at 19 yrs old $16 an hour to come and learn how to swap toilets and intall faucets and vanities ....

" Nah.... I'm good. Got a part time job delivering Pizzas " ... he said

So... I do sympathize with Mr. Trumps staffing probs but I hope he realizes that his option of getting HB-2 visas for temporary people aren't availabe to all of us .

The nice Nicaraguan lady with the U.S. passport working for me has a son in in Nicaragua who can't even get a visa to visit his Mother....

funny we want to toss kids out with American accents that have lived here all their lives and we're OK with exchanging them for HB-2 Hatians that may or "may not" go home .

Have to admit I've noticed that trend myself. Too many 30-somethings living in mamas basement and they've become used to it. All want $45ph jobs with no skills required. So, back to the Play Station until the bars open.
Were you aware that anyone over the age of 21 and living in a relative's basement is now considered "homeless"? If they tell the right lies they qualify for welfare. They can also hold up cardboard signs in traffic and make more money in off the record cash in only a few hours than a low wage job pays in 40.

SP I am up to my ass in trouble with the Dept Of State for hiring some workers out of SA through a labor broker that was in violation of reporting the workers on the wrong visas. Trump is my man but i wish when he opened up another 13000 H2B visas for his resorts to bring in foreign workers he would have opened up a way for me to bring in some CDL drivers. I am damn desperate for truck drivers.

Wow 6kids... you need to foster that attitude for the good of this nation .... no joke.... my neighborhood is filled with mid 20 yr olds still living at home and working PT at the mall who won't come to work for me. There is also a brace of high school kids who have never had an after school or summer job..... or washed the family car .

The 24 yr old across the street has never once mowed the lawn....brought in the garbage barrels...or even checked the mail box..ever

I wish I could hire your 12 yr old as well.

I hired an Amish crew (family) for my construction, fantastic workers who are having fun at what they are doing. I have had to slow them down in this heat, working in long sleeves and straw hats...not to mention their beards. The only break these guys do is a half hour for lunch and an occasional visit to the latrine that I have hauled in for them. I supplement their water with Pepsi and malted milk shakes. Today, unbeknownst to them, I have Nathan's hotdogs and potato chips along with icy Real Sugar Pepsi as a special thank you for their hard work this week. I really appreciate the skill and craftsmanship that they bring to their work.

Sam your description of the Amish workers is... well.... wonderfull and I have no doubt a joy to witness.

Unfortunately I fear they are but a tiny piece of a small percentage of Americans with a like mind . So how did you come to choose them for the job over other contractors ?

He would love to come and work for you! Damn, sorry about the neighbors! I blame the parents on that. That crap would not fly here, everyone here has something to do. Oldest is 20, USMC Reservist, sophomore in college so he can go to Officers School and then be a pilot. In the plan since 17 years old. 19 year old daughter at same school, paying and working for it. Rest are in high school or middle school. All my kids have something to do, even my 13 year old who has mental and physical disabilities. The 12 year old (youngest) is upset that he cant work for you!

Very simple, a sister in our church recommended them as honest and dutiful workers. They price their work as compared to other craftsman, not just carpenters. Their work is of the old style and a joy to behold. A crew of three in two days does the same amount of work other's take a week to do, I know as I have had work done before by others. No tobacco breaks, coffee breaks, standing back admiring their work breaks, no sitting in the latrine to relax. Their parent operate a business crafting furniture and other wood items, my bride and I are going to take a look next week on her day off. I am getting ready to make them 30/30 ammo as a hunting gift for them this fall in appreciation of their hard work and honesty. Isiah, the leader saved me many thousands on my metal roof using connections that he had in the industry over what I could purchase locally. We have broken bread together, offered prayer together and enjoyed each other's company. As I told Isiah on their first day, you and your family don't work for me you work with me. Isiah said that he and his family look forward to coming to work unlike other details that have hired out on. The only rule we have with each other is The Golden Rule and our contract is a hand shake among Christians. To keep it simple for me I pay them their wages each day which pleases them and me as well. Isiah and I have an understanding that all future work they will get first consideration.
