No, it's not primarily America's fault--in the Turd World, the concept of proper disposal of waste is as unknown, as pointless, as incomprehensible, as birth control; I mean, trash all over the ground, or otherwise polluting the environment, is basically "invisible" to them (the same "migrants" invading out country!)--they aren't offended because they don't "see" it.

But whether WE in the civilized world are chiefly responsible for it isn't the point--the point is that it's a horrendous global problem, & it's absurd to expect the vermin who ARE responsible to do anything to correct it; either the civilized world addresses the problem, or it just gets worse. Yet again, the never-ending "white man's burden"!

But how does that justify us jumping through our apex over plastic straws?

They get away with it due to being blessed with little to no regulations to hinder them ....isn't that what we want ?

Dead wrong--not a matter of regs, but of ATTITUDE, or personal values, among the degraded peoples of the Turd World. As a matter of fact, there ARE reasonably good environmental regs "on the books," technically, throughout most of the Turd World--but the general population has never heard of them, & would laugh at them if they were informed. For ex., Brazil & other countries in the Amazon have strict laws against clearing the tropical forest--loggers & miners laugh at them with impunity! Mexico has laws protecting the nests of endangered sea turtles, but every market near their breeding places have mounds of their eggs for sale openly. THESE are the same attitudes the invaders bring with them to this country!

I've been to nearby Mexico. There are beaches there that would cost five million on our west coat. Beautiful except for the plastic and baby diapers(whatever those things are). No concept of cleanliness. Must be nice to be a slob and visit nice beaches. That's just locally. The rest of the world, HA! Tons of junk dumped. But, no one gets a free pass; plastic is advancing. Damn prehistoric dynasaurs and forests are the source of a never ending supply of plastic. It's a plastic fanstastic planet. No one's giving up on trash bags and baggies for sandwiches.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

well you know... you might be quite right on the attitude being responsible . Attitudes can be changed and sometimes should be changed even if it takes things we don't like ...i.e. regs.

I remember when I was young there was litter along the sides of highways and it was common to see people parked at the newly made McDonalds toss their burger wrappers out the window into the parking lot . Laws became stricter and $100 enforced ....and education .... remember the Indian standing on the highway with a tear in his eye ? And look it worked and something good came of it .

My previous post was meant to express the hope that our rush to eliminate as many regs as possible doesn't reverse some of the positive headway made like its allready doing to water here in Florida .

              So Clinton ...hope you understand

and Red.... shut the F up you ignoramous ...

Reminds of the visit I made to Horsetail Falls just outside Monterrey, Mexico, which is in a national park & is Monterrey's chief tourist attraction. The path to the falls looked like a garbage dump, food wrappers & containers, paper & plastic of all kinds, strewn on the ground from the parking lot to the base of the falls. Don't blame it on the Gringo tourists--98% of the people I saw there were Mexicans.

As a carrier sailor in the early 70s all ships company would take its turn working the mess decks for two or three months. I can remember hauling plastig bags of trash up to the port quarter, punch some holes in them , and then toss them over the side .

I have personally witnessed many times floating green garbage bags in an endless stream from stern to horizon

This was a crime that the US Navy has supposedly stopped doing. Other navies & cruise ships no doubt continue getting away with it.

The US Navy has done alot trying to minimize dumping plastics overboard. Last I saw it was a machine that turned plastic waste into large discs to be stored until the went into port.

My state doesnt even have a minor litter law. There may be municipal ordinances but someone whips their bag of McDonalds out the window on the highway I wouldnt know what to charge them with.

The Indian with the tear was actually 100 percent Italian. Another liberal fallacy or perhaps their first act of Cultural Appropriation.

Ill agree that education and a change in attitude made a difference.

It wasn't fear and regulation it was education and understanding.

The sportsmen and hunters who always have protected the environment were able to convince everyone else to clean up.

Only filthy pigs that still wantonly litter turn out to be liberal slackers in the Occupy Movement or crazy liberal hippie wannabes in the Dakotas that in the process of protesting possible pipeline pollution created tons of garbage they made the tax payer clean up.
