Well, the gloom and doomers would have you believe
that's in our near future. I remember a Science Fiction
story "The long afternoon of Earth" (Brian Aldis)where
it got so hot humans turned into little creatures that lived
in the tree tops in order to survive - as long as they didn't
fall into the mouth of the hungry plant lurking below -
which of course they did.
I suspect that these Scientists who come up with these
end of the world scenarios are in reality Science Fiction
writers testing out new story lines in order to see how
well the idea does in the Press before putting paper in
their typewriters.
