Why don't we just save up for it.... ?

Present admin thought it a good idea to tout some solutions to the health care problem here in the United States... above the demolition of Obama care .

One was an income tax incentive.... write off 10 % of your insurance premium. Thought being that will entice the uninsured ino get off their ass and become responsible. Problem with that is if you can't pay $1200 a month...you likely can't pay $ 1080 either.

The other great idea is Health Savings plans ...... well

well I had two minor outpatient surgical procedures this past month...rotator cuff and trigger finger.

Went in to the out patient surgical center across the street from the mall at 10:15 am and was put out the door before 1:00 pm . I have the itemised bills to me and the insurance here now

    Surgical Center $53,000

Shoulder Surgeon $14900 ...... he did seven that day

    Hand guy $5790

    ? someone ? $990

Nurse practioner who injected something in the shoulder $690

with the previous Dr visits, Xrays and MRI we've topped $78,000 ...US currency

my copay for the bi weekly therepy is $65 a visit and I note my insurance is billed $351 every time I spend an hour there

so I have to wonder.... how do you save up for that ?

I realise we are now going to go off on some tangent about all the illegals gettin it free..... horse xxxx, we're talking about me and you....

and that place wouldn't let me in the door until I coughed $ 1800 up front

It's true. A working guy can't save enough in one lifetime to withstand more than one serious illness (if even) without getting wiped out. How much are you willing to spend to get better? Answer: all of it. In the old days, there was just less stuff they could try to get you better. So bills were less and people died sooner.

For my part ... have had health insurance on my wife and myself since we married 8/79. Paid monthly. Money down the rats hole. Never got any use out of it except for two children born. Big deal. Grand total of claims in 39 years has been less than $20K. Have paid in many many thousands of dollars so some doctor can keep up the payments on his mercedes. Never saw the use in it. If I'd been paid that money rather than it being included as part of my "compensation," I very much doubt that money would have been wasted on insurance. It'd have gone into something that would have doen me and my family some actual good ... buy house, etc. Now ... 39 years later ... it has done me and my family just about no good at all. But oh boy it really kept the "health care industry" keep rolling along. True, this does not play well with the Chicken Little crowd who swears that everyone must be prepared for the sky falling. As far as I can see, it was all just money down a rat's hole. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.
