Will other medical schools go along with this? Philadelphia has 5 medical schools and it will be interesting to see how they react.

Good idea IF and only if it puts more MDs in rural areas; service in the boondocks for some definite term, at least 5 yrs, should be the "string" attached to the free tuition. Around here, MDs that opened their practices 40-50 yrs ago are retiring in droves & there are damned few replacements when the big money is in the big cities! -
Eh, rural areas already get a disproportionate amount of taxpayer subsidies thrown at them. If people want better doctoring, why can't they move where the doctors are? Why subject doctors to live in places where they stick out like a sore thumb? Better idea: let the veterinarians treat people too.Comment

Good idea. Doctor graduates with low/no debt. He can then practice as he chooses. Current reality is that doctors graduate with a incredible mountain of debt. Seeking a specialty is about the only way to generate sufficient cash to pay that debt off in a timely manner. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce." Unlike most conservatives, libs have no problem exploiting dead children and dancing on their graves."Comment

AMA and other "professional associations" have worked for years to restrict the numbers of medical graduates. Thousands of well-qualified applicants have been rejected in favor of minority and other aggrieved groups. But you cannot blame the docs. There are only so many golf courses, and it is so boring waiting for your tee time when there are so many new members playing. Seriously, it is sad when a student from a rural area is handed a free medical education, only to choose to practice in an urban area when the big money is. Regards, ClarkComment

That's why it shouldn't be allowed to happen; the student with aspirations to join the Bedminster Club doesn't deserve free anything.
Free tuition to facilitate a student's study of law, social work, gender & ethnic studies, & a multitude of other socially-worthless professions that at best do society no good, but more likely cause actual harm to the middle-class by working chiefly for the interests of society's parasites & misfits, is as bad an idea as can be conceived.
But the health-care profession is DIFFERENT, something we ALL need, desperately in many parts of the country, so every kind of assistance possible to encourage students to take up those studies, rather than become another civil-rights lawyer, or something else equally pernicious, is a wonderful, socially-constructive idea. Any young person who commits in a legally binding contract to persuing a career in medicine, dentistry, nursing, etc., should have the red carpet rolled out for them at gov't expense!Comment
