So If Mormons aren't Mormons Anymore, Then...

Will it still be the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?

I just don't know if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Tabernacle Choir is going to have quite the same ring to it. I'm guessing the promotions department is going to apply for an exemption.

    According to Russel M. Nelson,

"The Lord has impressed upon my mind the importance of the name He has revealed for His Church, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We have work before us to bring ourselves in harmony with His will. In recent weeks, various Church leaders and departments have initiated the necessary steps to do so."
This happens in all religions from time-to-time, that the person at the top comes to believe that the divine speaks to them in bureaucrat-ese.

Never did like mormons because of what they did 100+ years ago to innocent people! Plus, I have enough trouble keeping one wife happy!

I'll point out that two of the seven men "whose names should be written in gold" were Mormons. The crossed the Sierras on foot in dead of winter and brought out about half the survivors of the Donner Party.

And what about the wagon train where mormons and indians attacked and murdered them all!

The Fancher wagon train left Harrison, Arkansas, in 1857 and was attacked in Mountain Meadows, Utah. Most of the people were killed, except for a few small children who later told the story. Bishop John D. Lee was executed for the atrocity. I live about 60 miles, and have seen the monument on the courthouse square to the victims.

But again, I point out Mormons have performed heroically and to paint them all with the same brush is unjust.

A little re-branding. I have seen Catholic churches labeled as "The Catholic Community of...." They recently have emphasized that they are a Christian church, that the Book of Mormon is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." Some people have been rebranding themselves as "progressives" lately....

One can give respect to the way Mormons go about their business. They're decent hard-working people who show commitment to their faith, even when it demands difficult things from them. Something your Roys Moore cannot do. But their origin story sounds like, to use a 19th-century term, a real whopper.
