I won't speculate what inspired the change. I will say it's good to see that the White House did.

If they had put out an announcement from the get-go what they were going to do, maybe after making a few phone calls, then stuck to it, this tempest in a teapot would have never happened. A few gracious words from the high road about Sen. McCain's long service to the country wouldn't have hurt either.
