Just how large can Cruise Ships get ?...

The saying "The bigger they are, the harder they fall"
comes to mind when I look at these giant accidents just
waiting to happen. How they stay upright amazes me, but
if this ship got into trouble far out at sea, then how could
nearly seven thousand passengers and crew be rescued ?
And what would happen if all 6600 passengers suddenly
went to the port side to look at a surfacing submarine ?

Built in Germany yet somehow they found a family with Arabic sounding names to christen it, give it the name of an opera set in Egypt written by an Italian.
I hope they get a better captain than the Costa Concordia had.

I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable in that large of passenger ship. Heck, even the troop ship I was on taking 3000 troops to Vietnam was very uncomfortable.

The limiting factors in cruise ship size is how big the yard is that building them, how big is the mooring areas that they operated out of and the bridge height they travel under to moor up in the states.

I know I wouldn't want to be on a ship that populated regardless of size. Due to docking facilities I've noticed that when these ships have the capacity increased they build them taller instead of being able to make the hulls much longer. It seems to me that this would add to them being top heavy and could roll over more easily during a bad storm but I'm not an engineer.

6600 = a lot of sewage. Do any of you know how they handle this volume? Do they dump it in the oceans raw or treated? I know when they come into port they aren't in for long. Perhaps they have time to discharge everything into a land based treating facility while the cabins are being cleaned and the food is restocked.

If you were wondering too. This article is from 2014 but I doubt there has been any changes. These ships should be banned till the holding tanks can be modified for some kind of treatment.
