    What is this fascination with speed all about ? ...

    So who exactly is going to drive their SUV to work at 235 mph ?
    How many people do you know who could actually handle a
    vehicle doing over 200 mph without impaling themselves on the
    nearest tree ? And where exactly could you do that without
    having the police clear the road ahead for you for sixty miles or so ?
    The roads around where I live boast more potholes than asphalt.
    Wouldn't it be fun encountering a nice deep pothole at over 200 mph.
    I've driven at a little over a 100 once or twice but I really didn't
    find it that exhilarating being more concerned with what might
    suddenly appear out of nowhere right in front of me. And my Wife
    including her white knuckles wasn't impressed either.

      Too many people gaming thinking that this can be transposed into real like IMHO. Kinda like the gang banger who was into gaming and waving his Glock sideways, only to discover that getting shot is quite painful.

          So far their business has been successful. Someone is willing to pay for the prestige.

          My car will only do 107mph before the limiter knocks it back down. I once did 140+ on public roads about 40 years ago. A Wisconsin State trooper taught me the errs of my ways. A nice guy. Kept me out of the Racine county jail.

                  Maybe they're from Texas, where they have freeways with 80 and 85 mph limits. My brother tells me the Texas State Police say the average on those roads is 94 mph.

                      I once owned a 1964 Chevelle SS that I took to about 110mph. The front end got so light it was not responding to the steering wheel. Same thing happened with my 1977 Corvette with heavily modified engine only it reached 130mph. Great drag racing cars tho. My 1989 Corvette got up to 140mph and held the road good.

                          Only been up to about 155-160mph on a motorcycle, its not really anything worth doing.

                          Now, going fast in a fighter...that's something different entirely.

                              Co-worker had his Lotus deconstruct at well over 120. Basically walked away. Had plenty of sports cars and bikes, but the scariest thing to drive is my Clark Michigan 175 loader which steers by the rear axle. Have yet to get that thing to proceed using less than both lanes.

                                  Would driving backwards help ?

                                      No. The wheels are fixed on the axle and the whole axle rotates about a center pivot. Plus the cab isn't set up for driving backwards.
