Kellyanne: US Cities Should Be Sanctuaries For Law Abiding Americans

Wow! Do you mean US Citizens have rights?!? And the government has a duty to protect them?
Next you'll be saying that people have the right to speak their opinions, no matter how politically incorrect they may be -- and that it's WRONG to use force to shut them up.
I'm gonna have to think about this . . . -
Coming from Vern "Wingate", any free speech sentiment is ironic.
Is it the government's duty to protect citizen's rights? Or to infringe upon them as little as possible? If it's the former, then that's kinda saying that the Voting Rights Act was a good idea. So yeah maybe you want to ponder this a bit.Comment

The domain name stupidaltrightbullcrap.com is available if someone wants to start the social medial equivalent of the Jouster2 "ignore" button and build a safe space out there for like minded souls. As far as the broader discussion, all I'm hearing now is a directed chorus of complaints that private businesses with terms of use to keep the worst of the riffraff out (see Jones, Alex, and Putin, Vladimir) of their private property are exposing what everyone already knew: too little potty-training is happening on the right.Last edited by togor; 09-08-2018, 03:21.Comment

Vern, if you're hoping that I will object to your self-conditioned response to take yourself out of a thread, then it's going to be a long wait.
Meanwhile we learn through social media that Trump has declared that the faithful are being shut out of social media. And naturally the faithful accept this tautology as Gospel truth with nary a moment's thought, because it just feels right. Pity they couldn't be like #plaidshirtguy and hear the message as though with fresh ears for the first time.Last edited by togor; 09-08-2018, 04:37.Comment

Red, with your own posting style being a perfect example, the whole idea is to turn any and all reasoned discourse in the country into hash, specifically targeting any forums wherein people can take a critical look at Trump and have a chance of being heard. One of the greatest successes of Trumpism has been to morph the national conversation to a whole new level of shouted insults, half-truths, outright lies, etc., for the reason that Trump feels he thrives best in conditions of chaos, where coherent competing narratives to his cannot gain traction. I call it the Trump BMR (Bullsh*t Mindf*ck Ray), this facility he has for getting people to shout at others, and while I may be largely immune to its effects, most are not. My hope is that some day this freak show will finally have run its course, and Trumpists like you will have no other option than to crawl under a rock and sulk, and things will be relatively calmer. Until that day comes, there is a load to be carried. As much as possible, I'll use the high road.Comment

"Seems"? Ask any conservative who's tried to speak before a college audience; if the worst that happens is being shouted down, but not physically assaulted, that conservative got off easy. Afterwards, the college administrators will usually defend not the would-be speaker, but the riotous students: "he asked for it, for expressing unpopular opinions."Comment

This is why it's fun to do a DNA analysis. Opens up stories to your past that would have otherwise been unknown."The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. UllmanComment

Young people telling others that they're full of sh*t is a normal part of life. If Conservatives wanted to get a better reception for their ideas then they have the option of chasing the market. But going into any forum and telling the young people that what they believe is wrong will produce predictable results. I'd call that the Free Market of Ideas at work. Freedom of expression is a contact sport sometimes!! The Boo Hoo Woe Is Me crowd on the right is just trying to work the few remaining referees that are out there.Comment

Not in a university setting, where, in the past, before radical leftists took control of most colleges, the "free exchange of ideas," including unpopular ones, was supposed to be one of the MAJOR benefits students were expected to derive from a college education. The "free market of ideas" is absolutely NOT working when the threat of violence looms over the head of anyone expressing dissent from left-wing ideology--or rather, theology.Comment

Your favorite game, pointing at something in the world and saying that explains why you are the way you are. You don't think there's intolerance aplenty in certain college settings heavily controlled by Evangelical types? Of course there is and of course you know it. But it's your brand of intolerance so it's all good.Comment

No, I don't know it, & if there is, find some news report of students at such colleges (damn few of them!) going on a rampage when some leftwinger tried to speak.Comment
