About the cop who shot a guy in the wrong apartment....

...thinking it was hers, even though hit was his.

Why I wonder about is how did she get in? Wouldn't the fact that her key didn't work be sort of a clue? Wouldn't be surprised to discover that drugs or alcohol are involved.

A cop too stupid to find her own residence is WAY too stupid to be given a gun. Of course, all police depts. are under pressure from the fed gov't to HIRE WOMEN NOW!, whether they're competent to do the job or not, but even that requirement can't excuse hiring one as moronic as this one. Of all the unjustified cop-killings of unarmed civilians over the last several yrs, this one is in a class by itself.

About as bad as the one where a Woman called the Cops asking for help.
When the Cops got there, they shot her.

The version I read says she was trying to fit her key into the lock, and the person in the apartment heard her and opened the door. Seeing him standing there, in what she thought was her apartment, she shot him.

I agree -- a person like this does not need to be a cop. The fact that the system didn't flush her out earlier is an indictment of the system.

One news report showed the doorway of her apt.--there was a red, semi-circular, door-mat in front of it. Nothing like that at the door of her victim. How high was she?

Does her being a cop have anything to do with it?

It does if she was still in uniform and carrying a departmental sidearm. It does if she was supposed to have all the training we peons "can't quite comprehend".
So much for the Only cops should have Guns! war cry, eh?

Had she been elsewhere under different circumstances, her job might not carry as much weight as it is now.

*afterthought* Wasn't it you who asked, about the cop who shot a guy in the wrong apartment....?

Agree with all the above. There may be more to this story but she is clearly in the wrong. Poor guy was in the privacy of his own home. Apartments are not motel rooms. The doors do not automatically lock when closed so unlocked doors are common. While some apartments may look alike when you enter your own home you sense certain colors, odors, furniture, sounds and other things. She reacted out of fear and not common sense. Too fast with the gun.

He started the thread, and titled it "About the cop who shot a guy in the wrong apartment...." And now he wants to sneer at you for mentioning the shooter was a cop.

                  Typical narcissistic behavior.

It was, JB, and then I thought about it for awhile. Coming home armed certainly put her in a position to use deadly force, but then again this is Texas, where carrying is common. Her police training certainly led her to react quickly, but you'd think she'd try to discern the situation too. I don't know if Texas has the castle doctrine, but it wasn't even her castle. I hope she owns it and pleads out.

Wrong again, Vern. Just quoting the headlines to give people a quick reference. The part about what effect her police training does or doesn't have on the situation was simply one of those thoughts that came later.

BTW, congratulations on learning a new word! You're not using it correctly yet, but Trump will give you plenty of chances to practice.

Chase him into a corner and in lieu of crickets chirping he will talk about Trumps bone spurs.

That is common with narcissists -- they believe themselves gifted with superior knowledge (which is usually based on imagination, not experience or learning) and when cornered they tend to become flustered.

Go back and read the thread. JB hadn't even posted before I asked the cop question, yet you accuse me of dinging him. You really want to make those kinds of sloppy mistakes in front of me? How to put this... you're not showing the kind of game that you think you are. To use a basketball analogy: you hit the bottom of the rim on a layup attempt and now you're celebrating with your fans while I grabbed the rebound. Um...okay.

Go back and look at the question--does her being a cop have anything to do with it?

It's a good question, and one that her defense lawyer may well be pondering. Use of force rules for LEOs are different than they are for the public. She was off duty, but she was still a cop. The shooting was obviously unintentional in a broader sense, and she probably doesn't want to spend a decade or more in prison for it. So she'll work whatever angle has the best chance of getting her off.

The question might have interest to observers as well from across the spectrum, for the reason that if she is able to use her LEO status to wrangle a "not guilty" verdict from a jury, then it becomes a prime example of what gets the BLM people fired up.
