This question has been asked, and I thought it might be worthy of a thread.
A troll is a person whose intent is to disrupt or annoy others, not to engage in honest dialog.
How can I identify a troll?
There are many signs, but to bein with, trolls are narcissists. Here is an actual exchange with a troll:
1. Troll: "Do you know what it is like to be shot?"
Respondent: "Yes, I do."
2. Troll: "HOW do you know what it is like to be shot?"
Respondent: "I have two Purple Hearts."
3. Troll: "Well, then you should know . . . "
Let's analyze that.
1. The Troll believes it has superior knowledge -- based on it's superior imagination, not on experience.
2. The Troll challenges your claim -- in fact, it is a bit indignant. How dare you presume to know as much as the Troll! On the other hand, the Troll expects you to accept it's claim to superior knowledge without question.
3. The Troll believes it has the right to tell YOU what you should learn from YOUR experience -- experience the Troll has never had
