I hate to say this but,

I am looking for an "old fashioned" winter! My reasoning is not for snow but cold to deter insects. Have been fighting a plague of ant, flies, mosquitoes this season. Our summer has been wet and the "skeeters" are out in droves. Have had very little luck in controlling ants regardless of what one does. Went to fill up several empty plastic jerry cans and found ant's in all of the spouts.

Also here too in S.E. Iowa. Plus those damn stink bugs that get into everything.

Thought it was just us down here in the gulf coast. We had a nice spring but it has rained almost every day this summer partly due to the offshore storms. What hasn't been washed away is rotting away. It seems to have even drowned most of the insects. We'll always have some skeeters but what I run across mostly in my yard are spiders, particularly crab spiders which are seasonal for this time of year. Harmless little fellows that are either white or yellow (male and female ?), still, they are annoying when mowing the yard.

What's annoying about spiders is when you walk into their web
          which is invariably face high.

Yep, that's what keeps them from drowning too. After walking into the web and brushing everything off you go inside to relax, then you find the spider itself.

Ticks. We got ticks in Arkansas. And the Federal government, which developed the 4-poster, seems unable to provide them, or to allow Wal Mart to sell them.
