    Score one for the Grizzly Bears ...

    They get to live without having to dodge bullets;

    Why anyone but a person with a passion for killing would shoot
    these majestic animals is a mystery to me - but I've always
    hated trophy hunting.

    I had a (black) bear in my yard a couple years ago. One block from the HS and three from the elementary. There was a family, Ma plus two, living in a spruce two blocks from the center of town all summer. People find them in their occupied houses frequently. Hunting is the only thing which establishes an equilibrium.

      A judge -- a lawyer who doesn't know a bear from a bazoo -- makes the ruling.

        No. Everybody's read Winnie-the-Pooh, even the Judge.

          You may be over estimating his level of education.

            On some 1940 8mm Kodachrome reels I have taken in the Yellowstone area, bears (young Grizzlys, IIRC) are working over the steel trash cans near some cabins while ladies in shirtdresses walk by in the background, and the cameraman captures this in a 10-second take. Human-Bear relations in the West have changed over the years.
