    This is pathetic

The United States has been brought back to high school. Holy crap this is nuts. They both need to go away. Putin is probably laughing his ass off.

So they go on a break and the press covers the events like its a tennis match...."he needed to come out strong....". Sorry for the rant but damn this is terrible. I wish Trump would pull him out now just to stop the pain.

If he did that the dems win even before the vote, and that is what this is all about.

That would be like the defenders of Fort McHenry surrendering just to stop the pain.

Let us take our example from Sandy Bob and Buster Jig. And before someone asks, let me explain. They were two cowboys who went out on a drunken spree.

"And as they're a-ridin' back to camp
          Carryin' a pretty good load
Who should they meet but the Devil hisself
          a-prancin' down the road

And he says, "You onry cowboy skunks
          You better hunt your holes.
'Cause I've come up from Hell's rimrock
          to gather in your souls.

          Says Sandy Bob, "Old Devil
          We boys IS kinda tight
But you ain't takin no cowboy souls
Without SOME kind of a fight!"

And he punched a hole in his rope
And swang it straight and true
And lapped it around the Devil's horns
          And taken his dallies, too.

And Buster Jig, who was a rieata man
With his gut-line coiled up neat
Shook it out and built him a loop
And lassoed the Devil's hind feet.

They took him down and stretched him out
And while the irons was gettin' hot
          They swaller-tail forked his ears
Then they branded him up -- a lot!

They pruned him with a de-hornin' saw
And tied knots in his tail for a joke
And then they rode off and left him there
Necked up to a blackjack oak.

As an un-involved foreign observer, I find the whole process to be appalling and yet another signal that the United States is, politically at least, falling apart at the seams. My sense is that this has been going on for some years and is both characterized and perhaps caused by politicians giving their first loyalty to their Party and not to their country. I have no sense that either Party is more or less blameworthy than the other; they both seem to have lost their way.

As far as Mr Cavanaugh is concerned, I find it difficult to take seriously anything less than murder or outright rape that took place at a drunken teenage party 35 years ago. In 35 years one's perspective on any event can be modified by vivid imagination, retroactive changes in what is socially acceptable and perhaps (cynically) political opportunism.

I'll catch flak for saying this but it's true. Kavanaugh comes from the 1% and rules from the bench in a way to benefit the 1%. His whole life has been about advancement through maximizing the advantages that come with his access to exclusive clubs, which he has apparently concluded amount to some kind of birthright.

To the question of whether or not that is what the US Constitution was all about, there is good reason to believe that it wasn't. The founders were not keen on bringing about mob rule, although there were some fairly radical (for the time) idealists among them. The idea that they wrote the Constitution with the intent of substituting rule by new hereditary class (oligarchs) for the old (monarchs) is at the very least a matter of debate, despite what the "don't feed the trolls" crowd will say.

If one is of a mind to put harsh term limits on Congress, or hire Presidents that come from outside the political system, both as a means of bringing elements of a meritocracy back to the political system, then there is logic to the idea that people like Kavanaugh are not a good choice for the bench.

I could make some snappy remark about baseball tickets but that would be beside the point.

Your knowledge of history is good enough to know that being a member of the ruling class is more than just a bank balance. Look at the Churchills for example. Lord Randolph was not a man of substantial means, and after his passing (syphillus, resulting from a very cruel school prank), the Churchills got by on funds from his mothers lovers, and later Winson's writing.

There's no questions where Kavanaugh's sensibilities lie on the court, and no they're not with ordinary working people. If you have a court decision that suggests otherwise, I'll gladly read it.

Still waiting for Vernon to propose that debate that he says I am incapable of sustaining. To the man with an empty tank, the world is out of gas.
