In the British iteration of the parliamentary system, the losers of the election are known as "the loyal opposition". In our representative republic, when the Repubs lose, they are swiftly pushed to the margins of government and simply allowed to watch. When the dems lose, they marshal their forces in an effort to thwart the will of the voters and get rid of those that don't follow them. Historically, the dems are quite suited to be winners, the Repubs are happy to be losers. DJT ended all that, and the dems are having a very difficult time adjusting to the fact that the voters reject them at every turn. They even attempt to infect the social discourse with their lies and obfuscation, in their efforts to derail the winners. Regards, Clark

I dunno, Clark. Look at Georgia and how they run their elections under GOP control. No paper trail. All electronic. Gotta be a back door into that if someone wants to push the numbers as they're tallied. And this business where registrations from black districts are help up if so much as an "i" is undotted on the forms. Oh and who runs that department of government? The GOP candidate for Governor. What you're saying Clark only makes sense from the perspective of corrupt Southern politicians who as a group used to be Democrats (and are still in your memory) now being Republicans. And let's not even get started with the North Carolina legislature.Comment

In the UK they have a practice called "The Deposit." You run for Parliament, you a make a deposit, 500 Pounds Sterling, at present. You get 5% of the vote, you get your money back, you don't, you forfeit it.Comment

I note how it is "Southern politicians" who ae so evil -- northern politicians are of course snow white. And fifty years later, those same politicians are -- in the imagination of some -- still running the show. Bigotry like that is not pretty.Comment

Yes, the first Mayor Daley of Chicago was probably the most arch-segregationist this country has ever seen, unlike say, Pitchfork ben Tillman or Theodore Bilbo he was wasn't a rabble rouser.Comment
